Summer START is designed to assist new freshmen with the transition from high school to college through five weeks of academic courses and social activities. Summer START will provide a strong introduction to the culture of NC State and to the city of Raleigh.
This year will mark the fourth year of Summer START. Summer START’s living and learning experience will be limited to 300 freshmen, and a wide variety of students participate including: in and out of state students, international students, and student-athletes. Last year’s Summer START students were spread across 36 different majors representing all 10 colleges at NC State.
Summer START students will be enrolled in academic courses toward their specific major, as well as a one credit orientation course covering NC State’s resources, adjustment to college and study skills. In addition to up to eight credit hours of university coursework, many optional social activities are planned throughout the week and on weekends.
