What Students are Saying: (Post Survey Results)
“Do you think Summer START was successful? Why or Why Not?”
"Yes, Summer START was successful because I enjoyed it so much. It gave me a chance to network and make connections that will benefit me later on in my college career that I feel I would not have been able to make. I made some great friends in START that will also help me later on in college." Kelsey Strout, Biological Science/ Animal Science
"Yes I got my credits. Established a GPA. That's what is important. I also have met friends and I know where the majority of my classes are. I'm soon to being a sophomore next spring!" Timothy Crawford, Transition Program/ First Year Engineering Intended
"Absolutely. A great opportunity to meet people, familiarize with campus, and just college experience as a whole. I would recommend anyone who's invited to attend." Steve Yarush, First Year College
"How do you think Summer START helped you transition to NC State?"
"It gave me the opportunity to be on the campus, learn my way around, and experience it for myself without having to buzz around a ton of people. If I had honestly waited until the Fall to be on campus I would have been terribly confused." Jake Smith, Genetics
"I was originally worried that I would struggle with my classes and it would be difficult for me to adapt to the campus for my freshman year. Thanks to Summer START, I now feel like a "pro" when it comes to knowing things about and around campus and when dealing with classes. Just being able to experience the college classes and events here at State in the summer without the overwhelming number of people and more classes really helps with getting used to everything and being comfortable with being on campus." Celeste Sciabarasi. Biological Sciences
"It makes me know that what should I do in the college and how to manage my time. It also makes me confident to face the new life in a foreign country. It offers me the opportunity to make new friends and to get used to studying in NC State. The program is really helpful."
Qitao Wang, Zoology
"Would you recommend Summer START to future students?"
"I would definitely recommend Summer START to future students! As an out-of-state student, I really came to State not knowing much at all about it. Summer START helped me smoothly adjust to being on my own and in college. I made so many friends that I can depend on. It's also really nice to be able to walk around campus and see over 100 familiar faces. Summer START gives incoming freshmen a huge advantage over the students starting in the Fall." Carly Welch, Agricultural Business Management
"Of course. I will definitely introduce this program to students in my high school in China. I would say that this is a key program to the adaptation to American life." Chengyuan Zeng, Business Management
"Yes. I would say that it is a fun and worthwhile experience to get a head start on classes, experience dorm life early, meet new people and become more prepared for college life." Tianna Spencer-McClain, Math Education- Middle Grades
“My wife and I feel very fortunate to have had our son participate in such a fine program. It allowed him to experience college life with a smaller population as well as a lighter class load.
He made new friends and learned his way around campus and the greater city of Raleigh while doing so. He did very well in his classes and now has more confidence heading in to the fall semester.
What a great opportunity for freshmen to “get their feet wet” prior to the masses showing up. Again I thank you.”
