Summer START :: Benefits
Being part of the Summer START program gives you special benefits, such as free tutoring, structured study groups and evening and weekend programming. Plus, you'll get to know the campus, your classmates, and what it’s like to be in college before everyone else!
As a Summer START participant, you have the opportunity to build community and assure yourself a strong start at NC State. Living in Tucker Hall, all Summer START students will connect and build community through enrichment activities. Tucker Hall is located across the street from Carmichael Gym and the First Year Commons Computer Lab which is open 24 hours. Residing in Central Campus puts students in the middle of the action making everywhere on campus easy to explore and also helps with a short walk to class.
Start earning your college credits early. Summer START participants can earn up to 8 credit hours toward their NC State degree.
Students will be enrolled in a one hour orientation course to help them familiarize themselves with the University and its support structure. This course will help students to fine tune their academic skills while becoming comfortable with the University and the surrounding area.
Summer START understands the diversity of learning. Summer START aims to help all students find what success is for them and how they can achieve it at NC State. During START students will be assigned a mentor. Mentors are current upper classman that begin at NC State through Summer START. Mentors work with individuals on a one-on-one basis to answer any questions and get students on the path to attaining their goals. With individual attention given to students by Summer START staff members and the student’s specific college faculty, Summer START participants are able to put into focus on their dreams at NC State and after graduation to create their plan of success.
