Academics & Research

Founded as a land-grant university in 1887, NC State is the only university on the east coast that has colleges and academic departments focusing on agriculture, forestry, earth sciences, marine sciences, atmospheric sciences, engineering, landscape and architectural design, management, education, economic policy, and social sciences. Simply put - sustainability is inherently a part of our university's curriculum.

Our faculty, staff and students are committed to meeting, "the needs of the future without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Two fine examples of this commitment can be found in the work of Dr. H. Christopher Frey in regards to air pollutant emissions and Dr. Alex Huang's efforts to revolutionize the nation's power grid through his research at the FREEDM Systems Center. Efforts such as these are taking place throughout our 2,200 acre campus and will have a lasting positive impact on our campus, city and the globe for decades to follow.
