Climate Action Plan
Releasing the 2008 Greenhouse Gas Inventory is the first step in moving the campus forward. Now, we need the help of our entire campus community (students, staff, faculty and private partners) to develop solutions that sustain North Carolina State University well into the future.
Part of our land-grant mission is to educate our students and the citizens of this state on the needs and challenges of North Carolina. At NC State we are accomplishing this mission through our on-campus projects and initiatives. On the list of Twelve Guiding Principles for our Campus Master Plan, "Sustainability" is number two, directly behind "Commitment to the Master Planning Process."
However, we face some challenges right here on our campus that must be addressed promptly. It can no longer be argued that what we do at work, or at home, has no effect on our surrounding society, economy or environment. We must immediately begin work on reducing our greenhouse gas emissions; not only because of impending federal, and possibly state, legislation but to be better community stewards. We must be better stewards of the resources we are given while developing solutions to the problems we face as citizens of this great university and state.
The planning process will be starting soon. If you are interested in getting involved, please send us an email or suggest a solution. It is never too early to make a difference.
