Dining
Healthy lifestyles and nutrition can almost be forgotten in a fast-paced, fast-food world, often driven by the “now” and convenience. University Dining has a unique opportunity to influence the way students think about food and nutrition and make connections between a healthy lifestyle and long-term health of the individual and planet. Through University Dining’s sustainability inatiatives, locally grown, organic and free range foods are offered at several events such as Earth Week’s EarthFeast and the popular, annual All Carolinas Meal with foods local to the Carolinas. The University Dining Committee meets each month to review food services and suggestions.
Students can go beyond the dinner table to learn about how our food and farming systems are part of a larger balanced ecosystem through the Center for Environmental Farming Systems. Sustainable agriculture through the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is one of the oldest examples of sustainability on campus.
