July 2009 Recipient!
Stephanie Pomeroy
Stephanie serves as the Chair for the Sustainability Committee of Student Health Services. She was nominated for the position by her supervisor who calls her 'excellent' and that she "keeps us organized and focused on how we can do better for the environment."
In her capacity as Chair of the Sustainability Committee she is constantly looking for ways to expand the programming of the committee and has helped to push for the upcoming Student Health building addition to be LEED certified.
Stephanie took the lead in initiating the recycling program of the Student Health Services Pharmacy. They are currently generating 75% less trash on a daily basis compared to just one year ago. This effort has lead the pharmacy to identify other ways they can help conserve and reuse. To that end, the pharmacy has set a goal of going paperless within the next 5 years. She has arranged for speakers from the University Sustainability Office, Waste Reduction & Recycling and other departments to come and speak to the entire Student Health Staff about sustainable practices. A story on Student Health Services was recenlty featured in the American College Health Association newsletter, College Health in Action.
Much to her surprise, Stephanie was presented with the July award in the bi-annual meeting of the Student Health Services Sustainability Committee on August 12. She received a bag of gifts containing a CFL lightbulb, sustainable pens using soy-based ink and made of recycled material, a copy of the annual report on sustainability at NC State and tickets to Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek.
Please join us in thanking her for her continued dedication to promoting sustainable practices on campus!
