Jack Colby, Sustainability Officer
Jack has served as NCSU’s Sustainability Officer since 2004. In this role has been instrumental in establishing a campus sustainability program and has taken the lead on many sustainable initiatives. He has been NCSU’s Director of Facilities Operations since 1999 and became Assistant Vice Chancellor for Facilities Operations in December 2005.  Prior to that, he served at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, Duke University and Daniel International. Colby holds degrees in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech, an MBA from the Fuqua School at Duke University and is a licensed professional engineer in North Carolina.

As an APPA (Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers) member since 1978, Jack has served at the state, regional and international levels on various committees and as an elected officer. He has received APPA’s highest individual awards and is a graduate of both the APPA Institute for Facilities Management and the Leadership Academy.  Jack served as APPA’s president from 2005-2006.  During his term, he led a significant review and update of APPA’s strategic plan and established two task forces to make recommendations about annual educational forum and the potential for engaging in a credentialing/ certification program.  Jack’s leadership over the past few years will position APPA to meet the needs of the education facilities professional well into the future.

Tracy Dixon, Sustainability Director
Tracy was hired in April 2008 to provide leadership and coordination of the newly created University Sustainability Office.  Tracy has been in the sustainability field for over 9 years and knows NC State well.  She received her joint Masters in Public Administration and Natural Resources from NC State where her research focused on regional sustainability. She received her BS in Natural Resources from NC State as well. Previous to coming to NC State she worked as a Program Manager for Advanced Energy, an Environmental Analyst for the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, a Legislative Assistant for the House Majority Leader in the NC General Assembly and in public relations for the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.

Tracy has served on the board of directors for Triangle Net Impact, the NC Sustainable Energy Association and the Community Green Guide. She is a member of Triangle Emerging Green Builders, the NC Green Power Speakers Bureau and the National Association of Environmental Professionals.

David Dean, Sustainability Outreach Coordinator
David came on board in October 2008 to promote the university programs pushing the school towards true sustainability through not only campus but community outreach.  He comes to NC State from the music industry where he acted as Marketing Coordinator and/or Manager on several music and film projects.  In 2003 he established the Asheville Earth Day Celebration in coordination with the University of North Carolina - Asheville.

David is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University (M.T.S.U.) with a B.S. in Business and a double minor in Marketing and Communications.  He recently moved back to his hometown of Raleigh after a stint in Orlando, FL.  He is active with Panic Fans for Food, an organization helping to raise cans and cash for local food banks on Widespread Panic’s tours and Hannah’s Buddies, a nonprofit dedicated to accelerating a cure for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).  A graduate of Broughton High School, he was a recipient of the C.L. Jenkins Leadership Award as a senior and grew up bleeding Wolfpack red on the grass hill of Carter-Finley and the halls of Reynolds.

Lindsay Batchelor, Sustainability Program Coordinator
Lindsay was hired in January 2009 to oversee current Sustainability Office programs and work with other units/departments to initiate new campus wide sustainability programs. Her position will work to reduce NC State’s environmental impact and integrate sustainability into campus and community culture. For the past 5 years, Lindsay has worked for NC State's Waste Reduction and Recycling office- with the last 3 of those years in the Program Manager role. During her time with WRR, Lindsay has helped create growing support for campus wide sustainability through her work on the Campus Environmental Sustainability Team, coordinating the 2006 Campus Environmental Sustainability Assessment, conducting presentations on sustainability, serving on committees for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, in addition to furthering waste reduction on campus.

Lindsay holds a Batchelors degree in Environmental Studies with a minor in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Prior to coming to NC State Lindsay worked as an Education Specialist with the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education, as a researcher and environmental educator with the Iwokrama International Centre for Sustainable Development and with the environmental non-profit, SouthWings.

Mande Swisher, Sustainability Intern
Mande is a senior in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management with a concentration in Natural Resources.  She is looking forward to getting involved with sustainability organizations such as the Wolfpack Environmental Student Association (WESA) and the Campus Environmental Sustainability Team (CEST), as well as other campus sustainability programs.  She has been at NC State since fall of 2006 and plans to graduate in fall of 2009.  

Prior to coming to the Sustainability Office, Mande was a Park Ranger at Little River Regional Park on the Durham/Orange county line. She has worked at the Gaston County department of Tourism and the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau. She has also worked or volunteered with Be Active NC, Helping Horse Therapudic Riding Program, Lake Lynn Community Center, and NC State Carmichael Complex. She looks forward to a career in the field of sustainability and natural resources.
