INTO THE WOODS Cast Bios

 

Daniel Balogun, Wolf, is a junior in industrial engineering. When not on stage Daniel works for University Theatre as house manager and at Ticket Central. Previous theatrical credits include “Reporter #3” in Never the Sinner and “Daniel” in Godspell. He would like to thank his family and friends for all their love and support and is dedicating his performance to his beautiful girlfriend, Kristin.

 

Megan Bridges, Milky White, is a freshman in English education. Previously seen in University Theatre’s Amadeus, Megan has enjoyed performing with her fellow actors this first year at North Carolina State University. Prior to NCSU, credits include “Beth” in Little Women, “Puck” in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and The Music Man. Local film projects include Sorrowheart: the book trailer and Horseshoe. She would like to thank her wonderful directors, her fabulous family and supportive boyfriend, as well as her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ without whom she would be a “gelatinous pile of goo.”

 

Paul Brothers, Rapunzel’s Prince, is a junior in Spanish language and literature. Seen previously in It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, Paul is thrilled to have worked with such a great department of professionals and talented peers.

 

Liz Cervantes, Dancing Birds/Snow White, is a junior in communications media with a minor in business management. “I am very excited to perform in this University Theatre production.” This is Liz’s second year with UT. Previous roles include “a boy” in Waiting for Godot and “Sally Applewhite” in It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play. She gives thanks to all of the cast and crew for their awesomeness.

 

Jason Cooper, Jack, is a sophomore in communications. A proud member of this popular once-in-a-lifetime production, Jason is thrilled to join this team in bringing to stage what Sondheim envisioned.  Making his debut on the stage at University Theatre, Jason was last seen as “Fairy Helper” in RLT’s Cinderella – his third year in that role.  Regionally he was “Matthew” in Altar Boyz, “Dr. Parker” in Batboy, “God” in Children of Eden, and “Pippin” in.  On film he appeared as “Slave Teen” in Rusty Bucket Kid’s Club. He will be soon be seen in Member of the Wedding as “Honey” at Barton College directed by Adam Twiss.  A big special thanks to G-O-D, Ma, Dad, Family, ABF, the cast and crew, NCT, RLT, Uganda, the Kris Marceno Foundation and everyone else who has believed in me.  “This is my life. This is my passion. This is where my heart is!”

  

Taylor Cox, Cinderella’s Mother, is a junior in mathematics education. This is Taylor’s first University Theatre production and she has really enjoyed the experience. Previous credits include “Ado Annie” in Oklahoma!, and “Little Becky Two Shoes”in Urinetown. “I want to thank my family and friends for their support. I really wouldn’t be doing this if it weren’t for their constant encouragement.”

 

Russell Gentry, Mysterious Man, is a senior in history and archaeology. Russell’s ninth production with University Theatre, you may remember him in the roles of “Baron Van Swieten” in Amadeus, “Nathan Leopold” in Never the Sinner, and “Raynerd” in Christmas Belles. He would like to thank John, the cast and crew, the staff and supporters of University Theatre for a fantastic new facility and season.

 

Morgan Grail, Giant, is a junior in elementary education. Morgan got her start at University Theatre as assistant stage manager for The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Since then she has stage managed Waiting for Godot, Re:Design and performed in Amadeus. Last semester Morgan was inducted into the Alpha Psi Omega theatre fraternity. She is very excited to be a part of one of her favorite musicals!

 

Maddison Harris, Little Red Riding Hood, is a junior in fashion and textile management. Maddison is tickled to be performing in Into the Woods. Previous credits include “Suzanne” in Dearly Departed, “Shy” in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, “Maddi” in Godspell, and co-costumer for It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play. “I am so thankful for my fellow cast, crew and directors for all their hard work. I also want to thank my AMAZING family and friends for all their love and support! Maddison dedicates her performance to her baby niece, Samantha York Kanipe! “Careful the things you say, children will listen” Mama and Daddy – LYTTMAB!! Now “into the woods to grandmother’s house!”

 

David Hook, Cinderella’s Prince, is pursuing his masters in material science. David would like to thank his family and friends for their constant support.

 

Alyssa Johnson, Cinderella’s Stepmother, is a junior in elementary education with a theatre minor. This is Alyssa’s fifth University Theatre production with past credits including roles in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Christmas Belles, and Dearly Departed. Most recently she was stage manager for Blue. Alyssa would like to thank her family, friends, and boyfriend for their wonderful support. “Thanks to the cast and crew. Break a leg!”

 

Rebecca Jones, Cinderella, is a recent graduate of Duke University with majors in biology and earth and ocean sciences. Currently, she is a non-degree student completing veterinary medicine prerequisites here at NCSU. Secretly, Rebecca has always wanted to do musical theater and thanks her college roommate and the Van Dover Lab for their support as she now journeys to fulfill her wish.

 

George Kaiser, Narrator, is a senior in arts applications/theatre. George is overjoyed to once again have the opportunity to work with John McIlwee as director. Previous show credits include “Mozart” in Amadeus, “Richard Loeb” in Never the Sinner, “Hamlet” in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, and “Cpl Jeffrey Howard” in A Few Good Men. George is grateful for all the hard workers who make a show possible — the cast, tech crew, costumers, and stage managers!

 

Marielle Kissick, Lucinda, is a senior in business administration/marketing with a minor in Italian. Marielle is sad to say goodbye to University Theatre with her fourth and final show. Previous credits include “Helene” in Sweet Charity, “Marielle” in Godspell, and “Angel” in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. She would like to thank her family, friends, and the staff of University Theatre for supporting her passion the last four years, and she is looking forward to pursuing her dream upon graduation in May.

 

Laura-Nelle Parnell, Witch, is a senior in political science with minors in Spanish and vocal performance. Laura-Nelle is thrilled to be back in Stewart for her last role with University Theatre. Previous credits include “Miss Mona” in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, “Marguerite” in Dearly Departed, Godspell, and most recently, “Lana Sherwood/Violet Bick” in It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play. Thanks to all—Ron, Nancy, Ellie, Jen, Jayme, David, Paul, Nick, Allison, Dana, Julie, Alex, and of course, the incomparable John McIlwee. As ever, a bevy of thanks to my incredible parents, Cookie and Jerry Parnell, not only for giving me a pre-made stage name, but for believing in me and telling me that I could accomplish anything I set my mind to. This one’s for y’all.

 

Brittany Patterson, Rapunzel, is a junior in business administration with a concentration in finance and a minor in French. Brittany is so glad to be a part of this production. Previous credits include “Jingle Singer” in It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, “Linda Lou/Angelette” in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and a techie on multiple shows.

 

Randall Rehfuss, Steward, is a senior in arts applications—theatre. Randall is excited to be on stage acting again, and in his first musical here at University Theatre. Acting credits include “PFC Louden Downy” in A Few Good Men and “Major Domo” in both Amadeus and Les Liaison Dangeureuses. Technical credits include involvement in some way for every UT show since fall 2006 in set building, lighting and sound design for student studios, and stage management.

 

Zac Schnell, Cinderella’s Father, is a junior in environmental technology/toxicology. “Performing in theatre here at State has been quite fun in recent years. Singing in ‘Best Little Whorehouse’ to falling and rolling around on stage in Christmas Belles have been some of the highlights in NCSU theatre. This is my sixth production at NC State and I hope there are many more. Thank you to everyone here for making theatre a great amount of joyful times to be a part of.”

 

Caroline Seabrook, Jack’s Mother, is a doctoral student in statistics. Into the Woods is Caroline’s “umpteenth” show at University Theatre, but definitely one of her favorites. She recently became engaged to her wonderful fiancé and would like to thank him for letting her put off wedding plans until the show is over. “Love you!”

 

Allison Snyder, Dancing Birds/Sleeping Beauty, is a junior in English. This is Allison’s second production with University Theatre; she first got involved in the 2008 production of Christmas Belles where she played “Gina Jo” and immediately fell in love with the program. She wishes to thank everyone who made this show into the wonderful production it has become and her family for all the encouragement they provide.

 

Robert Steinberg, Baker, is a sophomore in business administration/theatre/marketing. A theatre minor and an aspiring actor here at NC State, this is Robert’s first lead role performance with University Theatre. He has also performed in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and in Amadeus. Rob would like to thank his family and friends for all their love and support.

 

Katie Thompson, Granny, is a freshman in biomedical engineering. This is Katie’s fourteenth performance since middle school and her ninth musical. She has appeared in Into the Woods before at St. Mary’s High School of Annapolis in the role of the Stepmother. Thrilled to be singing Sondheim again, she dedicates this performance to her family and to Merle Louise, the original Granny.

 

Jillian Varner, Baker’s Wife, is a sophomore in economics with minors in math, theatre and biology. She is excited to be back on stage with University Theatre after working backstage on Amadeus and Re:Design. Additional credits include “Jewel” in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, “Frankie” in Christmas Belles, and “Reporter #2/Germaine” in Never the Sinner. Thanks to everyone who worked on the show – you guys rock!

 

Brett Williams, Florinda, is a freshman in zoology. This is Brett’s debut performance with University Theatre. Prior credits include Broadway Series South’s “Old Woman” in Les Miserables, and “Gladys Murphy” in Wakefield Theatre Company’s Copacabana. She is also a veteran performer with Raleigh Little Theatre’s Teens on Stage. Brett would like to thank her suitemates for their support and, of course, the wonderful cast and crew for an amazing opportunity and an unforgettable experience.

  

Production Bios

 

John C. McIlwee, Director, has been with NCSU’s University Theatre for more than 23 years. He has worked extensively throughout the United States as an actor, director, costume designer, scenic designer, makeup artist, and playwright.  He holds a master’s degree in theatre and a master of fine arts degree in theatre design from West Virginia University. A recipient of the Raleigh Medal of Arts, John is also a national award-winning fashion designer and a two-time winner of the National Arts and Letters Council Award for children’s play writing. He continues to lecture extensively on the history of couture and costume and enjoys working with the University Theatre staff to create a varied and exciting theatrical experience available to all university students.

 

Julie A. Florin, Musical Director, is a freelance musician who has taught public school and done church music ministry, among other musical pursuits. For University Theatre, credits include A Little Night Music, Cabaret, Follies, Anything Cole, Grease, The Apple Tree, Sweet Charity, Godspell, and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. “Kudos to these great students. Much love and thanks to Greg.”

 

Casey Watkins, Stage Manager, is a senior in arts application—theatre. Casey is proud to go out with a bang with Into the Woods! She has stage managed at University Theatre many times and has designed costumes in and around Raleigh. “Thanks and love to my family and friends. Many thanks to the UT staff for giving me a home for so many years. I guess you’re finally getting rid of me!”

Kira Lopez, Assistant Stage Manager, is a junior in zoology. Previous theatrical credits include “Ophelia” in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, “Pfc. Santiago” in A Few Good Men, and “Latonya Dinkins” in Blue. Kira was assistant stage manager for Godspell and Never the Sinner – all here at University Theatre.

 

Kalli Hulse, Assistant Stage Manager is a junior in industrial engineering. After being assistant stage manager for Amadeus and It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play last fall, Kalli is excited to join the amazingly talented cast and crew of Into the Woods. “Cast, break a leg!” I hope the rest of you enjoy the journey with us “into the woods!”

 

Anna Rains, Assistant Stage Manager, is a junior in plant biology. A newcomer to University Theatre, Anna is so grateful to be a part of this great production. She has previously worked with Raleigh Little Theatre (Altar Boyz, Lost in Yonkers, Cinderella) and North Carolina Theatre (Sound of Music). Anna is excited to help bring Into the Woods to life.
