The NC State Undergraduate Tutorial Center (UTC) produces materials for use in training tutors, teaching assistants, group study session leaders, and other educators who want to use a peer assistance approach. The UTC uses the materials to train its own tutors and Supplemental Instruction leaders and makes them available to other educators. Our training products are based on both our experiences in tutor training and the research on learning. The philosophy that guides our methods of tutoring and training is the same: Learners need to observe accurate models and have plenty of opportunities for practice, reflection, and discussion.
