Who We Serve Our mission is to support NC State undergraduate students who are working to improve their writing and speaking skills. Many visit Writing and Speaking Tutorial Services during their first-year composition courses. Others discover us while preparing work for other courses. Still others present themselves with proposals, presentations, interviews, grants, research papers, reports, articles, application essays, or business letters. Who We Are Our staff is comprised of graduate and undergraduate tutors, who work during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. All those who serve as writing and speaking tutors are proficient writers and speakers with a commitment to helping others improve their writing and speaking skills. What We Offer Writing and Speaking Tutorial Services primarily provides one-on-one tutoring. During the fall and spring semesters, assistance is offered Sunday through Friday in the mornings, afternoons and evenings at various locations across campus. During the summer, one to two tutors are available on an appointment basis, Monday through Friday. We also offer workshops on a variety of common writing and speaking issues, such as conducting an interview, revising and editing a paper, and delivering effective oral presentations. Lastly, all locations house a growing library of writing and speaking resources for students, instructors, and administrators. These resources include dictionaries, thesauruses, citation manuals, grammar handbooks, writing textbooks, and public speaking texts. The largest collection of resources is housed in Park Shops, which also has a video camera, television, and VCR for taping and/or reviewing speeches, mock interviews, and so on. |
