7. Social Sciences
Four 3-credit hour courses (12 credit hours total) from at least three of the following areas: ANT, ARE, EC, PS, PSY, SOC.  Also ENG 210, GEO 220, IDS 401, or STS 402.  Six (6) credit hours must be taken from the GEP Social Sciences list.
8. Foreign Language
While completion of FL 201, or comparable proficiency as demonstrated by examination, is required by CHASS, BA in International Studies students are required to demonstrate proficiency in at least one foreign language equivalent to the FL_3xx, either through coursework or credit by exam, or taking the placement test and placing out (no credits are awarded if placing out).  Opportunities for placing out of FL_3xx should be discussed with the International Studies Major Advisor.  All students must take the NCSU Proficiency Test upon entering CHASS.  Students who take FL) 101 and FL_ 102 will not receive graduation credit for these courses unless they are in a language other than the one used to fulfill the CHASS language requirement.
9. Free Electives
Any course except ECI 105, ENG 110, MA 100, 101, FLx 101, FLS 105, LAT 101, and GRK 101. 100-level foreign-language courses can be used as free electives if they are in languages other than the language the student uses to fulfill major language requirement.  Only 12 credit hours of free electives may be taken for credit only (S/U).

11. IS Advised Electives
Two courses (6 hours) to complement your studies with the recommendation of your advisor. The advised electives need to be 300 or 400 level courses with an international focus.
12. Although some courses are listed in more than one category, no course may satisfy more than one requirement. Students in IS may take no more than four IS courses at the 200 level.
13. International Studies majors are required to complete six (6) credit hours of study abroad coursework.  Prior to enrolling in a study abroad program students are required to consult with their International Studies advisor in order to ascertain that the courses they plan on taking overseas may be transferred for credit to NC State and may count toward the major and/or the GEP requirements.
14.  Math

15. All major courses are to be passed with a grade of C- or better.
