All COM courses required for completion of the Communication degree must be passed with a C- or better. A minimum COM GPA and Total GPA of 2.0 is required to be eligible for graduation.

1. History I. Two 200-level courses are required in History, one each from Groups I and II. History I includes: AFS 275 or 276, HI 207, 215, 216, 233, 263, 264, 264, 270, 275, or 276.

7. Social Science. Four 3-credit courses from 3 different social sciences (9 hrs must be outside the student's major field of study). Choose 6 hours from GEP Social Science list.

8. Mathematics.
Two courses (6 credits) chosen from the University GEP Mathematical Sciences list.

One course must be chosen from the LCP concentration elective list: COM 202, COM 267, COM 307, COM 357, COM 367, COM 392, COM 402, COM 417, COM 421, COM 431, COM 436, COM 441, COM 442, COM 447, COM 451, COM 456, COM 466, COM 467, COM 474, and/or COM 498 (with permission of concentration coordinator).

10. Any COM course not already used to satisfy Departmental requirement EXCEPT ENG 321, ENG 364, ENG 374. Students are encouraged to choose this course from the LCP concentration elective list above.

All COM courses must be completed with a grade of "C-" or higher even if taken as free electives, EXCEPT COM 437 and COM 496 (taken for S/U credit only).

12. Twelve hours of courses taken to fulfill the free elective requirement can be taken as S/U (satisfactory/unsatisfactory).

Foreign Languages. a. Students with high school credit or other knowledge of French, German, Latin, or Spanish must take a placement test to determine the appropriate level for their first course. b. Students who place into FL_202 or above have me the language requirement and are eligible to receive 3 hours of advanced placement credit by enrolling in the course into which they are placed and earning a grade of “c-“ or better on the first attempt. c. FL_202 is recommended and will satisfy the Dept. Restricted Elective. FL_ 101 will not count toward graduation unless in a language other than the one used to fill the University’s FL_102 proficiency requirement.

To complete the requirements for graduation and the General Education Program, the following category credit hours and co-requisites must be satisfied.

  5. Physical Education/Healthy Living (2 credit hours – at least one 100-level Fitness and Wellness Course)
    Choose from the University approved GEP Physical Education/Healthy Living course list.
