1 Natural Science. Sixteen total hours. Twelve credit hours from Natural Science Group 201 Basic Sciences. (Three basic laboratory science courses from the GEP list of Natural Science courses. One course each from three of the following areas: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, and Physics). Four credit hours from Group 202 Science Electives (One additional laboratory science course from the GEP list of Natural Science courses).
2 Social Science. Nine hours from Group 810 Social Science (Three 3-credit courses from at least two of the following areas: ANT, ARE, EC, PS, PSY, SOC. Also ENG 210, GEO 220, IDS 401, or STS 402). 6 hours must be chosen from the GEP Social Science list.
3 Mathematics. Nine to twelve hours chosen from the GEP mathematics list. One course from Mathematics Group 110 Calculus (MA 121, 131, 141, 231, 241, or 242). 7 Philosophy. Any 3-credit hour PHI course from the University-approved GEP Humanities course list. Courses in logic (LOG) or religion (REL) may not be used to meet this requirement. This is not included in the 30 hours required in the major.
8 Arts and Letters. Three hours. 12 PHI 375 Ethics. Three hours.

15 Advanced Philosophy of Science. Three hours. One course from the Group 716 list: PHI 440, PHI 445 or PHI 447.
16 Advanced Science/Technology Option. Group 701. A 15-hour concentration in one area of science, technology, or mathematics, selected by the student under the guidance of the student's CHASS major adviser. Titles and numbers of the selected courses will be recorded in a written document. Approval of the selected courses will be indicated by the signature of the student, his or her advisor, the department's Bachelor of Science program coordinator (if applicable, and if a different person than the adviser), and a CHASS Assistant/Associate Dean. Approval by these university officials is required for the option plan to be officially implemented. The completed document will be placed in the student's Dean's Office and Departmental files. A minimum GPA of 2.0 in this group of courses is required for graduation. A 2.0 average is required for this group of courses.
17 The Department of Philosophy and Religion does not accept D grades (D-, D, D+) in courses taken to satisfy any major requirements or in ENG 101 taken to satisfy the Introduction to Writing GEP requirement.
18 A major GPA of at least 2.0 is required for graduation.
19 The Comprehensive Articulation Agreement provides for automatic satisfaction of GEP requirements by designated transfer students under specified conditions. Although a course may serve the latter purpose, it may not thereby also satisfy college or major requirements unless it has already been designated as an equivalent.
