INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARING COURSE ACTION FORMS COURSE ADDITIONS
TO THE GEP LIST OR The new General Education Program (GEP) for undergraduates at NC State was approved by the Provost to be effective Summer II, 2009. Prior to Summer II, 2009, courses could be proposed to be included on the Undergraduate General Education Requirement Lists , if any. If you wish to add a course to the General Education Program (GEP) list as part of your proposal to develop a new course, see instructions for developing new courses. If you are revising a course and wish to either add or continue the course on the GER list, you may do this as part of your course revision. See instructions for revising courses. Please
note the basic Criteria for General Education Program (GEP)
Courses (for more detailed information, follow the GEP Documentation link below) :
§
GEP
courses should be generally available to all undergraduate students.
Courses should be offered at least once a year, and no more than
75% of the seats in any given section should be restricted.
§ GEP courses should have no more than one prerequisite.
§
Because
course outcomes must be aligned with GEP objectives, courses designed
to offer variable topics are not appropriate (courses in the 90-series
such as special topics, seminars, independent study, etc.).
There is a current transition phase from the current GER requirements to the new GEP effective Summer II, 2009. For more information about the GEP Categories and objectives, please visit the GEP section on our site at: http://www.ncsu.edu/uap/academic-standards/gep/index.html If you are neither developing a new course nor revising an existing course, but wish to simply add an existing course to the GEP list, complete the Course Action Form in full (click here for explanation of headings on the Course Action Form) and attach the following documentation:
