North Carolina State University Handbook for Advising and Teaching

5-2 COURSE SELECTION

Courses are to be selected based on the requirements of the degree program (See Appendix A)) in which the student is enrolled or reasonably anticipates enrollment, and selections should be made with attention to the student's automated degree audit (ADA) and plan of study of the student (See Undergraduate Plans of Study). Selections consistent with curricular requirements are to be made to address the University General Education Requirements (See Appendix B). A student who has not yet selected a curriculum should be cognizant of the General Education Requirements as they are to be met in the curriculums in which the student anticipates enrolling.

While all undergraduate major programs have implemented curriculums revised to meet the General Education Requirements, some students remain enrolled in the precursor versions of these curriculums. Where not otherwise restricted by their curriculums, these students may meet University requirements for content in the humanities and social sciences through selections from the "Humanities and Social Sciences Electives" (See Appendix C).
