North Carolina State University Handbook for Advising and Teaching

5-3.5 INTERINSTITUTIONAL REGISTRATION

SELECTED UNC INSTITUTIONS AND DUKE UNIVERSITY

Any NC State undergraduate degree student enrolled in at least eight credit hours on the NC State campus may enroll for a course which is not available at NC State, during a fall or spring semester at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, or Duke University under the interinstitutional registration program, provided the student's adviser and dean approve. Credits and grades earned at these universities transfer as credit hours without grade points or grades indicated and are not included in the computation of the grade point average for undergraduate students. Principles and procedures applying to graduate degree students who desire to enroll in courses at these Universities can be found in the Graduate Catalog. For graduate students, both credit hours and grades (converted to the NC State grading system) will be included in computing the grade point average at NC State.

Under this arrangement, tuition and fees are paid at NC State. Any special fees assessed by the visited institution will be paid by the student.

During the summer, both undergraduate and graduate degree students must be enrolled in at least one course on the NC State campus during the same session as the requested interinstitutional registration.

COOPERATING RALEIGH COLLEGES

The Cooperating Raleigh Colleges (CRC) is a voluntary organization comprised of NC State, Meredith College, Peace College, St. Augustine's College, St. Mary's College, and Shaw University for the purpose of developing and conducting cooperative educational activities. The organization provides the opportunity for students to enroll at another institution for a course or courses not offered on their home campus. Other activities include a cooperative library arrangement, joint student activities, and faculty cooperation and interchange.

Any NC State undergraduate degree student who is enrolled in at least eight credit hours on the NC State campus may take a course at another Cooperating Raleigh college during a fall or spring semester (except that men may not enroll in courses at Peace College) provided that the course is not taught on the NC State campus and the student's adviser and dean consider the course educationally desirable.

Non-immigrant visa holders from a Cooperating Raleigh Colleges institution will not be permitted to take courses taught by NCState's College of Engineering unless they have applied for admission and have been accepted into a degree program in the College of Engineering.

Students may not register for more than a total of two courses in any semester at other Cooperating Raleigh College. Under extenuating circumstances, exceptions for an additional course registration may be approved by the student's college dean.

Home campus students have first priority in class assignment. Courses taken at other institutions may be used as free electives and as alternatives to restricted electives if so approved by the department and college. Credits earned in this manner may apply toward fulfilling graduation requirements, but grades are not used in computing a student's grade point average. Under this agreement, regular tuition and fees are paid to NC State. Certain special fees may be required for special courses at other colleges, and the student is responsible for paying such fees.

During the summer, there is no Cooperating Raleigh Colleges program. A student desiring to take a summer course must register directly with the institution offering the course. Lifelong Education students may not register for courses through the interinstitutional procedure.
