Alexander Global Village is a residence hall for both U.S. and international students. The community features intentional efforts to acclimate international students to U.S. culture, to expose U.S. students to other cultures, and to help the entire community to understand and be aware of global issues. The program includes:
· The pairing of international students and U.S. students as roommates
· Alexander Ambassadors who assist in acclimating international students to U.S. culture
· A faculty-led programming series on global and cultural issues
· Current event discussions (“Coffee Talk” series)
· Events highlighting individual cultures (“Cup of Culture” series)
· Trips to increase global understanding (previously: Washington D.C., upcoming: Florence, Italy).
As fall 2007 begins, residents in Alexander Global Village will represent 34 countries, republics, and territories, all living and learning together-a truly amazing and exciting experience. Participation in the program is selective and is based upon potential contributions to the program, as well as anticipated benefits of
participation. Students are expected to be active participants, to initiate activities, and to be supportive of one another. All students must reapply for participation in subsequent years, with re-selection
decisions based upon staff and peer evaluation of participants' contributions to the program and community.
Any NCSU student may apply to live in AGV. The 153 available spaces are assigned on a first come, first served basis, although a number of spots are held for visiting study abroad students.
