2012 Common Reading Selection for Incoming Students

"It Happened on the Way to War: A Marine's Path to Peace" by Rye Barcott

Purpose of the Common Reading Program

To create a common educational and interactive experience for incoming undergraduate students, introducing them to NCSU institutional and academic values and expectations, including engagement as members of this community of scholars.  Ideally, the chosen reading will gain additional dimensions by connecting readers with the author as keynote speaker for the annual Wolfpack Welcome Week Convocation and start-of-academic-year activities across campus.

PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS:

Are you tired of just reading about critical local and global concerns?  Do you have an idea of how you and others can become actively engaged in an issue that relates to the common readings?  Funding and support may be available. Go to the Bricks Breaking Boundaries website http://sites.google.com/site/ncsubbb/ for ideas and connection to other students who want to roll up their sleeves, and make a difference!

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
