AGRICULTURE AND LIFE SCIENCESChanging Majors Into the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Students who are enrolled in another college on campus and who wish to pursue a change in their current major to a major within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences should contact the Undergraduate Coordinator's Office for the intended major and schedule an appointment to meet with the Undergraduate Coordinator. The Undergraduate Coordinator's office will review the student's academic record and determine if the student is admissible to the program. If the student is admissible, the Coordinator will complete a transfer card accepting the student into the major and assigning that student an academic adviser. This card must then be presented to the Office of Academic Programs, 115 Patterson Hall. Upon presentation of the card to the Office of Academic Programs, a University Curriculum Revision form will be completed accepting the student into that major. The student will then be responsible for taking the completed form to the college office from which they are transferring so that they can be released by that college. The Curriculum Revision Form once completed, must be returned to the Office of Academic Programs for further processing. As part of the transfer process, it is the responsibility of the student to ask if there are any files the releasing college/adviser maintains on the student that need to be transferred to their new academic adviser in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. If the student transferred to NC State from another college or university and has received transfer credit, the Office of Academic Programs needs to be made aware so that their transfer credit evaluation can be reviewed. The following table describes the minimum cumulative grade point average for acceptance into curricula within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences:
A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required and completion of ANS 150 with a grade of C- or higher. Applied Sociology and Criminology: CALS Department of Sociology and Anthropology will automatically accept students for a major in Applied Sociology or Criminology who have completed at least 12 hours at NC State with a GPA of 3.0 or better. Students who have met these criteria may enter the Department at any time in the year and should proceed to the Departmental Student Records office in Room 313A in the 1911 Building. Students intending to enter the Department of Sociology and Anthropology with a major in Applied Sociology or Criminology may apply for entrance if they have completed 12 hours, have GPAs between 2.5-3.0, and have completed SOC 202 with a grade of B- or better. Applications may be submitted to the Departmental Student Records office in Room 313A in the 1911 Building. Application deadlines are February 15, June 15, and September 15. Please understand that admission is competitive and meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission. Students will be notified within a month as to whether they have been accepted. Biological Engineering: The minimum GPA for transfer is 2.5. Students must also have completed the following courses with a C- or better: CH 101, CH 102, E 101, ENG 101, MA 141, MA 241, PY 205 and E 115 with a grade of S. Pre-medical, Pre-Dental, Pre-Optometry Sciences and Pre-Veterinary Medicine: Pre-Veterinary Sciences (SPV) and Pre-Medical, Pre-Dental and Pre-Optometry Sciences (SDM) are advising designations only. Students who have an interest in these areas must select a departmental major that represents the discipline in which they plan to pursue a Bachelor's degree. Some of the degree programs that students pursue at NC State with the intention of going to professional schools in the health areas include Animal Science, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Poultry Science and Zoology. However, students may obtain a degree in any academic area and then apply to a professional school as long as they have taken the courses required by that specific professional school for admission consideration. Note: Students who are interested in entering professional or graduate school are encouraged to obtain a minimum 3.0 GPA by their senior year to be competitive for admission.
