Students intending to enter the Department of Sociology and Anthropology with a major in Applied Sociology or Criminology may apply for entrance if they have completed 12 hours, have GPAs between 2.5-3.0, and have completed SOC 202 with a grade of B- or better. Applications may be submitted to the Departmental Student Records office in Room 313A in the 1911 Building. Application deadlines are February 15, June 15, and September 15. Pre-medical, Pre-Dental, Pre-Optometry Sciences and Pre-Veterinary Medicine:
Pre-Veterinary Sciences (SPV) and Pre-Medical, Pre-Dental and Pre-Optometry Sciences (SDM) are advising designations only. Students who have an interest in these areas must select a departmental major that represents the discipline in which they plan to pursue a Bachelor's degree. Some of the degree programs that students pursue at NC State with the intention of going to professional schools in the health areas include Animal Science, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Poultry Science and Zoology. However, students may obtain a degree in any academic area and then apply to a professional school as long as they have taken the courses required by that specific professional school for admission consideration. Note: Students who are interested in entering professional or graduate school are encouraged to obtain a minimum 3.0 GPA by their senior year to be competitive for admission.
