Criteria Effective June 2005

College of Natural Resources
Counseling by the appropriate program coordinator will be provided prior to transferring into any CNR curricula.
 
Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources
Students wishing to transfer into the following programs must have a minimum grade point average of 2.00.

Forest Management (FOM)
Natural Resources-Ecosystem Assessment (NRE)
Natural Resources-Policy and Administration (NRP)

Environmental Technology On-Campus Transfer Policy

Students will be considered for admissions if they meet all the following requirements. However, meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission. Admission is competitive and is based on academic record, space available and demonstrated interest in the desired field of study.

  1. Completed 30 hours of college level course work (at least 15 hours completed at NC State).
  2. Completed English 101, MA 121 or 131 or 141 and CH 101/102 or BIO 181 with a C- or better.
  3. Minimum 2.0 overall GPA and 2.0 or better for most recent semester

 Application Process:

  1. Application reviews will be on-going for on-campus transfers. Students will be notified of their admissions status within a month after the application is submitted.
  1. Internal transfer students interested in Environmental Technology (ET) must submit a transfer request packet to the ET Undergraduate Coordinator, Room 2222 New Jordan Addition.   The packet must contain the following:
    • Transcript – NC State only. Can be printed from TRACS system.
    • Letter of intent including information such as career goals, work experience related to major and any other information the student considers relevant.
    • Departmental On-campus Transfer Application. The application can be obtained in Room 2227 New Jordan Addition.

3.   ET Faculty members using the following criteria will review transfer request packets.

    • Demonstrated commitment to learning (GPA or improvement in GPA for last two semesters)
    • Demonstrated interest in major (part-time and volunteer work experience related to the major)
    • Availability of space in desired degree or concentration.
    • Diversity of the program student body. To include but not limited to race, gender, geographical distribution and area of study.

4.  If not admitted, applicants may reapply. Prior to reapplying, a meeting with ET Undergraduate Coordinator is strongly advised. 

Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences On-Campus Transfer Policy

Students will be considered for admissions if they meet all the following requirements. However, meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission. Admission is competitive and is based on academic record, available space, and demonstrated interest in the desired field of study.

1. Completed 30 hours of college level course work (at least 15 hours completed at NCSU).

2.  Completed English 101, MA 121 or 131 or 141 and CH 101/102     or BIO 181 with a C- or better.

3. Minimum 2.0 overall GPA and 2.0 or better for most recent semester.

 Application Process:

1.  Applications will be accepted continuously. Student will be notified of their admissions status within a month after submission of an application.

2. Internal transfer students interested in Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences (FWS) must submit a transfer request packet to the Program Coordinator, Turner House.   The packet must contain the following:

  • Transcript – NCSU only. Can be printed from TRACS system.
  • Letter of intent including information such as career goals, work experience related to major, and any other information the student considers relevant.
  • Departmental On-campus Transfer Application. The application can be obtained from Turner House (110 Brooks Ave).

3. FWS Faculty members using the following criteria will review transfer request packets.

  • Demonstrated commitment to learning (GPA or improvement in GPA for last two semesters)
  • Demonstrated interest in major (part-time and volunteer work experience related to the major)
  • Availability of space in desired degree or concentration.

4. If not admitted, applicants may reapply. Prior to reapplying, a meeting with FWS Coordinator is strongly advised.

 
Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management

A.  On-Campus Transfer Admissions Policy

Students will be considered for admissions in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management, Sport Management and Professional Golf Management if they meet all the following requirements. However, meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission. Admission is competitive and is based on academic record, space available in the requested major, and demonstrated interest in the desired field of study.
 

  1. Completed 30 hours of college level course work (at least 15 hours completed at NC State).
  2. Completed English 101, required math course, one natural science with a lab, PRT 152 with a C- or better.
  3. Minimum 2.0 overall GPA and 2.0 or better for most recent semester is required for the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management and Professional Golf Management.  Minimum 2.5 overall GPA and 2.0 or better for most recent semester for Sports Management.
  4. All applicants interested in the PGM program must submit a golf handicap of twelve (12) or less verified by a United States Golf Association (USGA handicap) Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA) golf professional, or high school golf coach or has successfully passed the Player Ability Test (PAT).

  Application Process:

  1. Application deadlines: January 15, May 15 and August 10 each year. Students will be notified of their admissions status within a month of the application deadline.
  2. Internal transfer students interested in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management or Sport Management must submit a transfer request packet to the PRTM Undergraduate Coordinator, Room 4012 Biltmore Hall and students interested in Professional Golf Management must submit their request packet to the Director of the PGM Program, Room 4023 Biltmore Hall. The packet must contain the following:
    • Transcript – NC State only. Can be printed from TRACS system.
    • A letter of recommendation from a N.C. State adviser or faculty member. All PGM applicants must have a letter of recommendation from A PGA golf professional or high school golf coach.
    • Letter of intent including information such as career goals, work experience related to major and any other information the student considers relevant.
    • Departmental On-campus Transfer Application. The application can be obtained in Room 4012 Biltmore Hall or downloaded at:      http://cnr.ncsu.edu/prtm/undergrad/documents/oncampusapplication.pdf
    • PGM applicants – Verification of golf handicap.
  1. Three PRT faculty members using the following criteria will review transfer request packets. PGM faculty will review PGM applicants.
    • Demonstrated commitment to learning (GPA or improvement in GPA for last two semesters)
    • Demonstrated interest in major (part-time and volunteer work experience related to the major)
    • Availability of space in desired degree or concentration.
    • Diversity of the program student body. To include but not limited to race, gender, geographical distribution and area of study.
  1. If not admitted, applicants may reapply. Prior to reapplying, a meeting with either the PRTM Undergraduate Coordinator or PGM Director is strongly advised.

B.  Minor in PRT

Students wishing to minor in Parks Recreation and Tourism Management must meet with the Undergraduate Coordinator prior to beginning course work, complete the Minor in PRT Application, and file a plan of work for the minor. Because of course availability, it is strongly recommended that students begin work toward the minor prior to their senior year. Students will be allowed to register for PRT classes as seats are available. (Preference will be given to PRT majors.)
 
Department of Wood and Paper Science
Students wishing to major in Wood Products (WP) must have a minimum grade point average of 2.00.
 
Students who wish to transfer into the Paper Science & Engineering (PSE) curriculum from another curriculum at NC State must first meet the following requirements for matriculation:

  1. Pass the following courses with a C- or better:  CH 101, CH 102, CH 201, CH 202, MA 141, MA 241, PY 205, ENG 101, E 101.
  2. Pass E 115 with a grade of S.Once these requirements have been met, the following GPA guidelines will be used to determine if the student will be admitted into PSE:

TGPA 2.7 or higher – automatic admission into PSE
TGPA 2.3 – 2.7 – admission contingent upon approval of the PSE program
TGPA < 2.3 – no admission into PSE until grades are improved
 
Students do not have to be matriculated or admitted to take either WPS 201 or WPS 212.

A student wishing to be admitted to PSE will stay in his/her current curriculum until the requirements described above are met.  On-campus students cannot be placed into the PSU curriculum code, which is restricted for incoming freshmen only.  Please note:  The College of Engineering requires that students in “U” designations (e.g. CHU, EU, PSU etc.) must matriculate into an engineering program by the end of the 4th semester or after 60 credit hours.
