Undergraduate Academic Operations Council

Welcome to the Undergraduate Academic Operations Council (UAOC).

Introduction

There are many issues of an academic operational nature that the provost or other university-level administrators and offices must continually address. These have been addressed until now primarily through the interaction of the Office of the Provost with the offices of the deans of the various colleges and with the various support offices. Interactions have been partially moderated by the existence and operation of three groups: the "council of associate deans," the Coordinating Committee on Undergraduate Advising, and the Graduate Operations Council. The need exists to better organize the process of advising university operational offices relative to both undergraduate and pan-university academic matters which are not strictly graduate, making university-level academic operations decisions, and disseminating relevant information. That need is to be met through a reconfiguration of the undergraduate operations functions of the first two of the above three groups into a single operations council.

Certain issues must go to the University Council (UC) for review, and often that council can benefit from additional insights on operational issues prior to making its recommendations. Currently, such operational issues are referred to the Office of the Provost which undertakes to answer the operational questions, with the advice of various groups. This situation often leads to unclear understanding at all levels of the academic policy and procedure decision process, and to what can often be inconsistent implementation approaches -- some that work well and some that do not.
