As a mentor who has contracted with a student you are responsible for guiding the student’s hands-on research or creative project.  Be sure that your student is aware of various protocols related to your research program (safety plan, ethical issues, proper animal care and use, data entry procedures, copyright issues, etc.).  Also assign a project that can be realistically completed within the agreed upon timeframe.  Many helpful tips can be found at Best Mentoring Practices and Ideas.
