SAMSI/CRSC
Undergraduate
Workshop
About the
Program: The
Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute and Center for Research
in Scientific Computation (SAMSI/CRSC) one-week undergraduate workshop is
intended for college juniors and seniors and is focused on SAMSI research
activities related to the statistical and applied mathematical modeling and
analysis of experimental data. The
students will use mathematical and statistical models to analyze experimental
data they collect in the CRSC/Math Instructional Research Lab on the NC State
University Centennial Campus.
Program
Activities: Undergraduate
Workshop are held every spring. The activities include tutorials on
mathematical and statistical model development, inverse problems, numerical algorithms,
optimization, and statistical methods.
Additionally, students will work in teams to collect and analyze data
pertaining to current research topics in structural systems. These activities are designed to expose
students to a team approach to problem solving in the context of applications
having both mathematical and statistical aspects.
