Summer
Opportunity
Undergraduates
who have a background in mathematics, physics, chemistry or biology and
interested in doing research with faculty mentors and other undergraduate
research students are invited to apply for an eight-week research experience in
interdisciplinary quantitative science at the University of North
Carolina-Greensboro. Participants will receive a $3,500 stipend and
housing in one of UNCG's residence halls.
Program Details
Participants
will be introduced to various tools, techniques and problems at the
intersection of mathematics and other sciences. The goal of the program
will be to provide interdisciplinary undergraduate experiences (URE) for
students and to advance the research programs of our faculty mentors. We
anticipate that the research will lead to innovative mathematical solutions for
scientific investigations and a rigorous sense of realism in the mathematical
models. We are committed to recruiting and training a diverse group of
participants, improving their critical thinking, quantitative reasoning and
communication skills. We expect that participants in the program will
present their work at local, regional and national STEM meetings and anticipate
our research will lead to faculty and undergraduate student co-authored
peer-reviewed manuscripts.
