Message from Chancellor Oblinger
Located in one of the most livable and fastest growing research-centered areas in the nation, North Carolina State is a university with unique strengths in science and technology yet with a constellation of disciplines matched by relatively few institutions in the country. NC State is helping to shape the future by applying those strengths to the complex issues facing our global society.
As we draw on our university’s historic mission and vision, we look with pride to the capacity of our faculty, students and staff to translate our ambitious goals into concrete, real-world solutions.
Moving into 2008, we are focusing on five key areas:

- >> Creating educational innovation
- >> Driving innovation in energy and the environment
- >> Improving health and well being
- >> Fueling economic development
These five focus areas not only encompass some of the world’s most pressing needs, but also match NC State’s capacity for teaching, research and engagement.
Our accomplishments from the past year indicate NC State’s willingness to push ourselves to act boldly, to hold true to our heritage and to move confidently into the world as leaders and drivers of change.
