Where Minds Meet / Amazing {Chinese Characters} Happen

The characters above are Chinese for "opportunities." And last year's trips to Beijing and Hangzhou brought new opportunities to NC State in the form of new agreements with six Chinese universities to promote academic exchanges in education, research and extension.

Months later, NC State opened the Confucius Institute, a multidisciplinary center to teach Chinese language and culture in North Carolina, and students and faculty members began crossing the globe in a burst of collaboration, exploration and discovery.

The Chinese initiative continues a tradition of outreach that has linked NC State to more than 200 academic partners on six continents in the past decade - from Seoul National University in the Republic of Korea to Universidad de Concepcion in Chile.

The opportunities are remarkable, giving students the benefits of a truly global education and affording faculty members a framework for cross-cultural collaboration.
