The NCSU Libraries is presenting a special exhibit documenting Tom Regan's contributions to the field of philosophy and to the animal rights movement. The exhibit, entitled "An American Philosopher: The Career of Tom Regan," opens at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5 in D.H. Hill Library. It will run through Jan. 15, and is free and open to the public.
Regan, a professor of philosophy at NC State, is recognized as the intellectual leader of the animal |
rights movement in the United States. The exhibit highlights Regan's career as a philosopher and leader in the contemporary animal rights movement and draws from the Tom Regan Collection, which is housed in the library's Special Collections Department. Unique items from Regan's career -- such as manuscript materials from The Case for Animal Rights, a work many scholars regard as the seminal work in the field; photographs; books; pamphlets; awards; and memorabilia -- will be on display.
Regan serves on the editorial boards for several professional journals and has been recognized as an outstanding teacher at NC State. He has won prestigious awards, including the Gandhi Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Animal Rights Movement in 1986.
