Centennial Networking Lab Named a Cisco Exam Practice Lab

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Centennial Networking Lab at North Carolina State University's Centennial Campus has been named a Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE™) practice lab, the seventh such facility in the United States. The purpose of the lab is to offer a practice facility for information technology engineers working toward CCIE status, which is considered an important professional benchmark for Internet working expertise. Engineers who earn certification receive a certificate from Cisco and are entitled to use the CCIE designation on their business cards and résumés.

"We are very pleased that North Carolina State University is joining the distinguished list of universities with a CCIE practice lab," said Ed Carney, Cisco's vice president of engineering and Research Triangle Park site executive. "Because of the school's proximity to Cisco's RTP Campus, the lab represents another milestone in the partnership between Cisco and NC State and a valuable training center for talented engineers seeking the highest level of Cisco certification."

CCIE certification is a two-step process. The first step is to pass a written exam; the second and more difficult element is the two-day lab exam. Practice labs, including the one at NC State, allow candidates the opportunity for in-depth preparation by emulating the conditions of the test, which requires a wide range of practical networking skills and experience with Cisco equipment.

The Centennial Networking Lab, which is hosting the practice lab, is a facility dedicated to providing unbiased and technically sound network testing services. It is located on Centennial Campus, NC State's 1,000-acre research campus.
