BEAUFORT

  • WASHINGTON -- Kelsey Hart Norwood, daughter of David S. and Nancy U. Norwood, 151 Hilltop Ln. Kelsey will graduate from Washington Senior High School, where she is the senior executive of the Student Government Association and the chief marshal and president of the National Honor Society. She is also a four-year member of the Science Olympiad as well as a National Merit Finalist. .Kelsey plans to major in Chemical Enginering.

  • BELHAVEN -- Ryan Anthony Woolard, son of Daniel F. and Lisa B. Woolard, 423 Dallas Raul Road. Ryan will graduate from Northside High School, where he is president of the Beta Club and vice-president of the senior class. He also participated in the NC Govenor’s School for Natural Science and served as a junior marshal. Ryan serves as the chair of the Environmental Committee for the Tri-Community Ruritan Club.Ryan plans to major in engineering.

  • SOUTHPORT -- Nicole Marie Peglow, daughter of Renee M. Peglow, 596 Littler Circle Bsl. Nikki will graduate from South Brunswick High School, where she attended the NC Governor’s school and the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law. She is also a member of the Varsity cheerleading team, National Honor Society, and Who’s Who Among American High School Students and a Scholastic Art Award Gold Key Finalist. She was also Homecoming Queen and Freshman Student of the Year. Nikki plans to major in design.

  • SHALLOTTE -- Dana Marie Stanley, daughter of John D. and Mary D. Stanley, 740 Marvin Trail S W. Dana will graduate from West Brunswick High School, where she is the president of the National Honor Society and Students Against Drunk Driving.   • MORGANTON -- Mark Eric Stuenkel, son of W. Eric and Jan C. Stuenkel, 203 Castlegate Drive. Mark will graduate from Freedom High School, where he is an Eagle Scout, 1st Chair Alto Clarinet in NC All State Honors Band 2000, Wrestling Team Member and President of Calvary Lutheran Youth Group. In addition, he is a Junior marshal, National Honor Society, Science Qlympiad Vice-President, 2nd place in state Science Olympiad competition, Designed and built amphitheater for Forest Hill Elementary School.   • ALEXANDER -- Christine Amabile, daughter of Frederick A. and Laurel B. Amabile, 90 White Thorn Drive. Christine will graduate from Asheville High School, where she is co-president of the Outreach-Interact Club, National Honor Society, Class "top 10", and Teens Against Tobacco Use. In addition, she was involved with the Leadership Ethical Action Project, Project Power Mentoring, Our Next Generation, Inc. Advisory Board Member, Communities in Schools Mentor, and All District Band. Christine plans to major in humanities and social sciences.

  • WEAVERVILLE -- Leslie Marie Cook, daughter of John S. and Penny L. Cook, 27 Maney Branch Rd. Leslie will graduate from North Buncombe High School, where she was Western North Carolina Young Woman of the Year, voted most likely to succeed, was on the honor roll and a Junior Marshall. In addition, she was vice president of the BETA Club, was a community service Peer Tutor and was the vice president of the Health Occupations Students of America. Leslie plans to major in pre-med.

  • ASHEVILLE -- Nathan Atlee Radcliff, son of Wendell H. and Sheila S. Radcliff, 352 Old Leicester Hwy. Nathan will graduate from Clyde A. Erwin High School, where he is West Asheville Rotary Club ‘Student of the Month’, Scholastic Letter Award Winner, National Young Leaders Conference Representative and Wendy’s High School Heisman Nominee. In addition, he was Varsity Football captain conference champions, varsity baseball captain and Honorable Mention All-Western Athletic Conference, All-Western North Carolina 2000 Football.   • HARRISBURG -- Marc Gary Gray, son of Margaret E. Putnam, 7975 Old Holland Road. Marc will graduate from Central Cabarrus High School, where he is an American math Competition School Winner, National Honor Society, Who’s Who Among American high School Students and JROTC Outstanding Cadet. In addition he scored an 800 on SAT1 math, Vice Commander of JROTC. Marc plans to major in computer engineering.

  • MOUNT PLEASANT -- Amber Leigh Mc Farland, daughter of Phillip W. and Patricia J. McFarland, 3275 Lambert Rd. Amber will graduate from Mount Pleasant High School, where she is Governor School West Natural Science Student, Tar Heel Girl State Citizen, National Latin Exam: magna Cum Laude, and All-District Band Clinic. In addition, she is a member of the Leo club, Marching Band, Quiz Bowl, Thespian Troupe, Sci-Fi Fantasy Club, Odyssey of the Mind, Mu Alpha Theta Math Club, National Junior Classical League Honors Society, and Charlotte Youth Wind Ensemble.   • CONCORD -- Laura Catherine Odell, daughter of Walter C. and Janice C. W. Odell, 795 Rothmoor Place N E. Laura will graduate from Concord High School, where she is the Student Body President, treasure of student council, chief marshal, Keystone Club President and Senior Class President. In addition, she is a 13-year student at Pegge Lee School of dance, assistant dance teacher at Pegge Lee since 9th grade, Varsity and captain Junior Varsity Cheerleader at Concord High, track, Cross Country, Spider Sprint Club Pep Club, and Managing Editor of Yearbook Staff. He was named an AP Scholar by College Board and helped found local 4_H club Adopt-A-Grandparent program in 1995 -- recognized with Colgate Youth Service Award.   • CHARLOTTE -- Hannah Noelle Lippard, daughter of Hope H. Lippard, 3001 Finley Place. Hannah will graduate from South Mecklenburg High School, where she is the recipient for the Governor James B.   • CHARLOTTE -- Jordan Bucklew Schwarz, son of Peter m. and Jennifer Sue Schwarz, 5623 Riviere Drive. Jordan will graduate from North Carolina School of Science & Math, where he is Team Captain of the Quiz Bowl, Captain of the Knowledge Master Open -- led team to #1 place in NC and #9 in United States, Student Government-elected representative freshman and sophomore years, and an Eagle Scout.   • PEACHTREE CITY -- Kathleen Marie Powers, daughter of Chuck and Marie Powers, 207 Groveland Drive. Kathleen will graduate from Mcintosh High School, where was named a National Merit Commended Scholar and a Junior Marshal. She participated in Governor’s Honors Program and served as president of German Club, captain of the varsity swim team, and flute lieutenant and section leader of the band. Jodee graduated from Manchester High School, where she was Salutatorian, a state finalist for the Wendy’s High School Heisman competition, and a participant in Hoosier Girls’ State. Rachel will graduate from Ballard High School, where she was named a National Merit Commended Scholar and a member of the All-State Choir for three years. She earned the Rensselaer Math and Science Medal and the Yale Book Award. She played varsity soccer and ran varsity track. She served as president of the Chemistry Club and a representative of the Student Council. She participated in math team, Beta Club, National Honor Society, and a singer for Madrigals. Rachel plans to major in Engineering.

  • LOUISVILLE -- Nicholas Meyer Vance, son of Gary Loren and Denise Meyer Vance, 609 Fatima Lane. Nick will graduate from Trinity High School, where he was named a National Merit Semifinalist and Kentucky Governor’s Scholar. He was ranked number one academically in the class of 2001 and named to the Academic All-State swimming, cross country, and track teams for four years. He participated in the Math team and coached the Holy Trinity Elementary Cross Country team. Nick plans to major in Engineering.

He received the award of merit from the University of Louisiana System for a 4.0 grade point average. He served as prefect for the Honor Code Court, senator for the Student Government Organization, and vice-president of the Young Republicans Club; he was the manager/statistician for the varsity soccer team and representative of the Louisiana School Christian Organization.   • HAMPSTEAD -- Austin Markley Page, son of Joel Richard and Pilar Markley Page, 3914 Beckleysville Road. Austin will graduate from Hereford High, where he was named a National Merit Commended Scholar, Maryland Distinguished Scholar finalist and a Principal’s Distinguished Scholar for straight As. He was a member of National Honor Society, quarterback of the state-semifinalist varsity football team and quarterback of the school’s undefeated junior varsity team. He played on the state champion lacrosse team. Austin plans to major in Computer Engineering.

Matthew will graduate from Patchogue-Medford High School, where he earned Who’s Who Among American High School Students and the Scholar Athlete Award. He served as vice-president of the class of 2001 and National Honor Society. He ran varsity cross country, winter track, and spring track. Matthew plans to major in Middle Grades Education, Mathematics Concentration.

  • ITHACA -- Mariah Jacqueline Roebal, daughter of Bruce A. Roebal and Geri J. Johnson, 710 Mitchell St. Mariah will graduate from Ithaca High School, where she has been listed on the honor roll every marking period and the athletic honor roll every season. She earned a silver medal in basketball in the Empire State Games and a sectional championship in basketball. She conducted summer research at NC State University in the College of Textiles, culminating in the production of a fashion catalog for her WISE English class. Adam will graduate from North Hills High School, where he was selected as the outstanding sophomore participant in the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership (HOBY) program and the outstanding all-around freshman by the North Hill Education Association. Will will graduate from Spring Valley High School, where he earned the US History Student of the Year award, Jefferson Booth Award from the University of Virginia, and third place research paper for SCJAS. He has completed over 200 hours of community service; he served as vice-president of the student body and coordinator of the Teen Forum Show, a subshow of the Andy Thomas Radio Network. He is a member of National Honor Society, Beta Club, NUTHS, NSHS; he has spent four years in a math and science magnet program. Will plans to major in Enivronmental Design in Architecture.

  • DALZELL -- Anna Chesson Edens, daughter of Mark Spears and Ellen Chesson Edens, 3405 Edens Road. Anna will graduate from Wilson Hall, where she served as editor of the newspaper, earning the Best-in-State Student Editorial for 2000. She was named an Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar and attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for Academics. She served as secretary of the Tuomey Hospital Medical Explorer, winning the Best Attendance award while volunteering over 100 hours. She served as co-captain of the varsity volleyball team, president of Dalzell United Methodist Church Youth Group and the Beta Club. She is a peer tutor and member of National Honors Society. Anna plans to major in Biological Sciences.

  • MYRTLE BEACH -- Megan Alicia Gajewski, daughter of Robert Andrew and Portia Harris Gajewski, 1359 Royal Devon Dr. Megan will graduate from Socastee High School, where she was named a National Merit Commended Scholar. She has participated in the International Baccalaureate program, National Honor Society, and National French Honor Society.   • SIGNAL MOUNTAIN -- Caroline Mary Lockrow, daughter of Robert Park and Carol Weber Lockrow, 612 Marr Drive. Caroline will graduate from Baylor School, where she served as site leader for the community service group and chief-editor-in-staff of the yearbook. She is a participated in the Jim Pearce Leadership trip to Colorado and was nominated the Round Table, Baylor’s most prestigious organization. She has engaged in community service in Kingston, Jamaica, and visited the Cherokee Reservation and a homeless shelter in Asheville, North Carolina. Caroline plans to major in Psychology.

  • CHATTANOOGA -- Daniel Lamar Pickett, son of Gary L. and Dean S. Pickett, 512 Sterling Ave. Daniel will graduate from the Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences, where he served as the secretary general of the southeast region high school Model United Nations, leadership officer of the YMCA Youth Trust, and attorney for the mock trial team. He was named a National Merit Commended Scholar.   • CHARLOTTESVILLE -- Carmen Susanne Hunt, daughter of John Ervin and Rita Sullivan Hunt, 535 David Rd. Carmen will graduate from Monticello High School, where she served as secretary of National Honor Society and president of the National French Honor Society. She was a delegate to Virginia Girls’ State and a performing member of the Concert Ballet of Virginia. She served as vice-president of the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, president of Advance Women’s Ensemble, and secretary of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). She studies dance at the Academy of Dance Arts. She is a member of the Regional/District Chorus, National Math Honor Society and National Music Honor Society. Carmen plans to major in Industrial Engineering.

  • KING WILLIAM -- Rebecca Ann Previs, daughter of Steve Leonard and Ellen Piersa Previs, 6733 Powhatan Trail. Rebecca will graduate from King William High School, where named a finalist for the Wendy’s High School Heisman competition, a United States All-American Scholar, and one of 114 honorable mention awardees of 4387 in the writing/expository category for the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts competition. She served as editor of the newspaper, correspondent for two local newspapers and the Richmond Times Dispatch teen section, "inSync." She was selected as the Most Valuable Player for Track & Field, Cross Country, and Competition Cheering and holds the Northern Neck Cross Country Record for girls. She placed in the VHSL State Writing contests. She is a member of National Honor Society and has received the National Journalism Award for three years and the regional Lee-Jackson Essay Scholarship. Rebecca plans to major in Pre-medical Studies.

  • VIRGINIA BEACH -- Anthony Raymond Wong, son of George T.F. and Virginia C. Wong, 4613 Lodgepole Drive. Anthony will graduate from Kempsville High School, where he was named a Brickell Scholar, a National Merit Semifinalist, an AP Scholar with Distinction, and earned first place in English Oratory at the Virginia Junior Classical League convention. He served as treasurer for the student council association. He is a volunteer at the American Red Cross, the Union Mission, and participated in the Scholastic Bowl. Anthony is undecided about his plans for a major.
