University Scholar Lauren Hahn, a rising Junior majoring in Zoology, has been selected as a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Scholar. The Howard Hughes Medical Institute Undergraduate Program at NC State offers a two-year undergraduate research experience for students in the life science and life science related areas. The program allows an undergraduate to work with a faculty mentor on a research project and to receive monetary support for academic year and summer activities. Lauren began the program at the start of the summer term 2008 and will continue through May 2010.
While at NC State, Lauren has been involved in many academic and extracurricular activities. In addition to participating in the University Scholars Program and CALS Honors Program, Lauren has served as a CALS Ambassador and has participated in Alternative Spring and Fall Break Service Trips. She has served on the Scholars Council and volunteered in the WakeMed Hospital Emergency Department. Lauren has also been on the Dean's List and participated in Undergraduate Research in Genetics. An emerging leader and talented student, Lauren is definitely one to watch!
