Forum Registration
To satisfactorily complete the University Scholars Program, students are required to complete three (3) semesters of Scholars Forum. A typical schedule for completing the Scholars Forum requirement would be the following:
First year, first semester HSS 110
First year, second semester HSS 111
Second year, first semester HSS 110
For students invited to join the USP at mid-year, a typical schedule would be:
First year, second semester HSS 111
Second year, first semester HSS 110
Second year, second semester HSS 111
Exceptions to the Forum Registration Schedule
Students participating in Study Abroad, Cooperative Education, and National Student Exchange are not required to register for a Scholars Forum during the semester(s) in which they are participating in those activities. However, these students are still required to complete three (3) semesters of Scholars Forum. Also, the students should inform the USP office that they are engaged in one of the above activities. The USP office has no other way of knowing if students are participating in off-campus experiences, and students not registered for Forum are assumed to have dropped out of the USP and will be deleted from the program rolls and will no longer have early registration privileges or be able to register for Honors courses upon their return.
Dropping Forum
HSS 110/111 is a REGULAR University course, which does appear on your official transcript (even if you are doing "Alternate Forums"). If for any reason you decide to end your participation in the USP please remember that you MUST drop your Scholars Forum using the same Drop/Add procedure that you would use to drop any other class. Make sure you drop Forum before the "last day to drop a class at the 400 level or below without a grade" deadline. If you simply stop attending Forum, and as a result fail to attend the required number of Forum events, you will receive a grade of "U" on your permanent transcript. This may affect your eligibility for some financial scholarships and will be seen by potential graduate schools and employers.
