Frequently Asked Questions about Scholars Forum
Please note: The answers to these questions serve as part of the official guidelines for both HSS 110 and HSS 111. Also, please read and familiarize yourself with the USP Ticket and Voucher Policy. You are responsible for following the instructions in both of these documents.

1)  Am I required to attend a certain number of optional events (i.e., field trips, dinners, plays, etc.) in partial fulfill of my HSS 110/111 Forum requirements? No. Although we encourage to attend as many optional events as you wish throughout the semester, you are not required to attend any optional events. If you do choose to attend an optional Forum event , we encourage you to plan and sign-up in advance since many of the options have limited spaces available. Please do not wait until the last minute.

2)  Can I choose to attend one of the optional events listed above in place of my regularly scheduled Forum every week? Yes, except, of course when there are no options listed for a particular week. Otherwise, there is no limit on the number of weeks that you may choose to attend one of the optional events listed in this syllabus.

3)  May I attend more than one event during a week and "save up" events that I have attended and use them to fulfill my Forum requirement for a later week? Students are required to attend their 12 Forum events in at least 10 different weeks of the semester. This means that you could attend more than one event in one or two weeks of the semester.

4)  When should I turn in my attendance cards? All USP Attendance cards must be turned in at the end of the event at which they are distributed. No late USP attendance cards will be accepted. Students MUST complete both sides of the card to receive attendance credit. Please keep in mind that is your responsibility to follow the attendance guidelines listed for each event in the schedule.

5)  How can I find out how many events I have attended? You may now use WolfWare to view your events online at http://courses.ncsu.edu/hss110/. You may also call the USP Office [515-2353] or come by [102 Sullivan Hall] to find out how many events you have attended.

6)  Whom should I talk to if I have questions about HSS 110/111? Please talk with either Alex Miller, Sean Cassidy, Ken Johnson, Allison Medlin, Bengt Carlson, or Elaine Morrison (USP office 5-2353). And please remember: We have several Work Study students who work in the USP office, generally for only a few hours each week. While they are excellent folks and may frequently be able to help you, they may not always be able to accurately answer all of your questions. If you find they are not able to help you, please be patient with them and wait until you are able to speak with Alex, Sean, Ken, Allison, Bengt, or Elaine. Everyone on the USP staff will treat you with respect, and we would appreciate the same in return.

7)  May I call the SVAs and UGTAs to arrange to go plays, performances, etc.? No. The required sign up method is email. Phone calls should only be made in case of emergency and not for sign up. This will allow the UGTAs and SVAs to maintain an accurate record of those who have signed up for their events and help them to keep a log of the order in which people have contacted them.
