Leadership In Action - Now Accepting Applications!
CSLEPS invites first semester students to apply for one of 50 spaces in
our premier
4-year leadership program "Leadership In Action." Participants in the
program make
a commitment to learn about leadership
through their senior year and earn the Visionary Leaders Certificate
and a Mentoring Certificate, complete a capstone leadership project.

University Theatre Auditions!
Auditions are being held December 1st and 2nd for two plays through the NC State University Theatre department. The productions will be NEVER THE SINNER directed by associate director emeritus Terri Janney and WAITING FOR GODOT, a student studio production directed by Andrew Payne. Never the Sinner will be shown February 18-22, 2009. For more information visit http://www.ncsu.edu/theatre. Perusal scripts available in the University theatre offices in Talley Student Center 1202A. Scripts must be checked out and read in the building between the hours of 9am and 3pm.

NCSU Study Abroad Symposium!
Join us for the NCSU Study Abroad Symposium!
Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend the first annual
Study Abroad Symposium on Monday, November 17, 2008, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00
p.m in the Walnut Room in Talley Student Center.
NCSU student and faculty presenters will share the academic and
personal impact of study abroad through short paper presentations,
posters and panel discussions. The Study Abroad Symposium is an
important forum through which all members of the university community
can benefit from the growing internationalization of NC State.

Studying Abroad in China: Hangzhou Summer Study Program
Presenters: Dr. Carl Zorowski & Hangzhou Summer Program students &
faculty
Description: Dr. Zorowski and his team will present on the objectives,
organization and operation of a unique and diverse six week summer
study, travel and cultural immersion program for undergraduates at
Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China involving faculty from Business
and Management, Political Science, Engineering and Philosophy and
Religion. Their presentation will include student comments on the
experience and benefits, photos from 2007 and 2008 programs and plans
for 2009.
The Rhetoric and Reality of Intercultural Contact: A case study of
Indian students in the United States
Presenter: Rohini Thakkar
Description: One of the preferred outcomes of study abroad programs is
intercultural competency that results from increasing intercultural
contact. Ms. Thakkar will present her study which examines the
intercultural contact between Indian students and other internationals
as well as American students at NC State.
Going Global: Understanding the Choice Process of the Intent to Study
Abroad
Presenter: Dr. Paul Umbach
Description: Although internationalization through study abroad is
widely touted as a preferred means of developing globally competent
college graduates, very little is known about the factors that influence
students' predisposition to study abroad. Dr. Umbach will present a
paper that applies an integrated model of college choice which describes
students who do and do not intend to study abroad. This research
explores the impact of financial, human, social, and cultural capital on
students' intent to study abroad.
Learning and Living on the Galapagos Islands
Presenter: Katie McFadden
Description: Studying abroad provides an opportunity for students to
learn not only about a different culture, but also about themselves in
their experiences overseas. Ms. McFadden will compare and contrast her
experiences abroad with those here at NCSU, and how getting away can
help you appreciate everything you have back home.
Around the World in 90 Days
Presenter: Jon Mehta
Description: One of the desired goals of study abroad is for a student
to gain independence through immersion in a foreign culture. Mr. Mehta
will discuss how study abroad has affected him and eventually led him to
start a non-profit corporation.
