Community Service Opportunities
Below are some of the spring community service opportunities for WISE women to participate in (for WISE credit). More will be added, so check back regularly!
Expanding
Your Horizons (EYH) Conference
Date - March 7, 2006, Time - 8:00 AM-1:30 PM, Location
- NCSU Main Campus
EYH is a conference designed to expose sixth and seventh grade
girls in NC to successful role models in the science, engineering and mathematics
fields. The conference is scheduled for March 7th (note that this is during
NCSU's Spring Break). Volunteers are needed to register students and teachers,
take groups around campus, help with lunch, etc. If you'd like to volunteer,
e-mail the WISE Director.
Raleigh Food Bank
Dates - TBD (several dates - late Feb, March, April), Time - weekdays, between the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM
Join WISE women on one of several trips to a local food bank to volunteer your time and energy. Transportation will be provided. Sign-up sheets with day/time preferences will be available on the bulletin board by the 8/9 floor elevator.
Multiple Sclerosis Walk
Date - April 1, Time - 10:00 AM, Location - Research Triangle Park, Page Road, Imperial Center
Join the WISE team in the walk or help raise money for this cause that affects women twice as often as men. You can also volunteer to help with registration, rest stops, route support, entertainment and clean up. Sign up sheet posted on the bulletin board by the 8/9 floor elevator, or contact Kaitlin McCormick to sign up by March 24th.

Raleigh
Date - April 1, Time - 8:00 AM-1:30 PM, Location -
meet in brickyard at 8:00 AM
Service
Raleigh is Saturday, April 1st and a great way to get involved.

Darfur
Deadline - Contest has publication deadline date of
March 5; can submit to WISE until May 1
The United States Holocaust Memorial
Museum's Committee on Conscience is asking high school and university students
to write an editorial explaining to their communities why the genocide in
Sudan's western region of Darfur matters today. Students can enter their
published editorials in the Committee on Conscience's editorial contest.

you must turn in a copy of your editorial to the WISE office, and it must
be approved by the GAs or Director.
Habitat
for Humanity Fun Run
Date - April 22, Time - 9 AM, Location - Centennial
Campus
5K run or 1 mile run/walk to raise
money for local Habitat for Humanity. For WISE credit, you must provide
some proof that you participated. To register, click here.
Support the Troops/Adopt a Platoon
On-going
A couple of times each semester, we will be collecting donations (magazines, toiletries, cards, letters, etc., NO money please) to send to our troops in Iraq. If you'd like to contribute, just bring your donation to the WISE Office.
