WISE Square D* Research Awards! Application deadline extended!
Students may apply for one of four $1000 grants to support a science or engineering research project to be conducted with the supervision of a faculty member or professional in their field of interest. The student and sponsor will each receive $500 in support of the research project, to be used at their discretion.
Eligibility
Any NC State undergraduate student may apply for the WISE science or engineering research support grant, provided they are enrolled full-time and have attended at least two WISE-sponsored events at the time of application (attendance must be during the 2005-2006 academic year and must be on record in the WISE office). Each applicant's GPA, resume and research proposal will be considered, along with the application form and WISE event attendance record.
Requirements
- Research must be in a science, mathematics, statistics or engineering field, and the research project must begin no later than December 31, 2006.
- Students must submit a completed and signed WISE Research Award application form and a copy of their resume to the WISE Office by March 15, 2006. The application form requires a thorough description of the proposed research project. Students must show a link between the research and their career interests, although the research does not have to be in the student's major.
- The student must identify a faculty sponsor who will sign the application form, agreeing to serve as the official sponsor of the project.
- The student will also prepare a poster submission for the NCSU Undergraduate Research Symposium and a written final report summarizing the research project. The report should be approximately three to five pages in length. Both the poster and the report should be approved and signed off on by the faculty sponsor. See 2005-2006 reports and posters.
Application Timeline
Deadline extended - Applications will be available on-line by January 9, 2006 and will be accepted until April 12, 2006. Awards will be announced on or before April 25, 2006.
Payment
The student's stipend will be divided into two payments of $250--one payment at the beginning of the project, and one payment after successful completion of the final report and the Undergraduate Research Symposium poster submission requirement. If for some reason the student does not conduct the research for which s/he applied, the money must be refunded to the WISE program.
