Why do undergraduate research or an internship?

There are many reasons to do undergraduate research and/or internships/co-ops. You will gain invaluable career-related experience that can enhance your classroom learning, increase your confidence in yourself and your choice of major, help you make connections that will be important in the future, and increase your marketability when it's time to apply to graduate school or look for a full-time job.

What's the difference between an internship and a co-op?

Cooperative education is an academic program which combines coursework with experience by alternating semesters of each. You work one semester, return to school the next . alternating for three rotations of co-op. You are eligible to co-op after your first year at NC State.

An internship is usually during the summer (but may be during the regular semester), and may be a one-time thing.
