WolfWise
For a number of years, two co-existing, centrally supported, but incompatible calendaring systems have been used at NC State -- GroupWise and Oracle. To improve campus-wide scheduling and communication, a decision was made to consolidate and use only Novell's GroupWise 7.0 and to refer to this new implementation as WolfWise. This Web site focuses only on the E-mail and Calendar functions of WolfWise. No decisions have been made yet regarding the support level for its other functions.
Messaging Architects Report
The final report received from Messaging Architects is now available online. The final pages contain a succinct description of their findings and recommendations.
A few things to note as you read this - the OIT directors have conducted a preliminary review of the document and, as with most 3rd party reviews, there are findings we agree with, findings we disagree with, and several that will require further analysis. Our next step along these lines will be to issue a "response" to this report categorizing and articulating our response to the findings. Secondly, while the scope of the consultant's work was to evaluate the technology and operational aspects of various messaging components, the final report included quite a bit of unsubstantiated information. Some of this can be attributed to the fact that while some of the materials for the report were generated outside of the core team, no one outside of ComTech was directly contacted by the consultant. Lastly, a number of tables and diagrams have been redacted from the document for the security of our systems.
Once we have completed a more thorough review and share a draft of our response, we will welcome your feedback. While the goal is to complete this response in the next 2-3 weeks, there are a number of competing priorities that could delay it until late November.
