General Conference Information
The State of Water Resources in North Carolina is the focus of this year’s Annual Conference--North Carolina’s premier water research
conference. From the opening session on March 30th to the conclusion with the Progress Energy Water
Resources Seminar on March 31st, key issues, opportunities, and questions about North Carolina’s
water resources will be addressed with over 40 presentations by university and corporate researchers, students, local, state and federal government agency representatives, and environmental professionals. The Institute’s goal is to provide a forum through which conference participants will: 1) become better informed and educated on the most current research and best practices addressing water issues in North Carolina, and 2) network and discuss such issues with other participants and colleagues.
As an integral part of the WRRI annual conference, the North Carolina Water Resources Association will host a symposium entitled “Water-Energy Nexus: The Future of Two Valuable Resources” on the afternoon of March 30th. Water and energy are uniquely and inextricably interconnected, and the increasing demands on these resources will require increasingly creative management strategies to ensure their sustainability. This half-day symposium will focus on how various entities are being resourceful and visionary in planning for future water and energy provision and use. The symposium will open with a presentation offering an overall perspective on the water-energy nexus. Speakers to follow will focus on the water and energy issues in North Carolina, and will include representatives from the State of North Carolina Energy Office, NC electric power suppliers, UNC Chapel Hill, and the Orange Water and Sewer Authority. The symposium will close with a speaker panel discussion.
