The DESIGNsmith distinction celebrates excellence, innovation and achievement. The College wants to identify those individuals who have utilized Design to Forge the Future. DESIGNsmith recognizes a visionary individual who, within the past 60 years of the College of Design, has had a profound impact (or for current students, potential impact) on the College and/or their profession. DESIGNsmith recipients are “path-makers” who have lead by example and demonstrated exceptional work. Nominees shall have made outstanding and significant contributions in professional, social, academic, artistic, or other areas that the awards committee feels are appropriate for recognition. These areas may be local, national, or international.
Recipients of the DESIGNsmith distinction will come from each of the following categories and include current students and College of Design alumni:
- Architecture
- Art +Design
- Graphic Design
- Industrial Design
- Landscape Architecture
From this list of DESIGNsmith recipients, a jury will select specific award winners to be recognized on April 3, 2009.
Criteria
- An individual must have graduated from or be currently enrolled in the College of Design at NC State University.
- Candidate must have made significant contributions and had profound impact in his or her field demonstrating excellence, innovation and achievement.
- Candidate must have exhibited a high degree of character and integrity.
- Interest and involvement in the College of Design will be considered but will not be the only factor in the selection process.
- An awards ceremony will be held on Friday, April 3, 2009. Winners must attend the awards ceremony.
- All candidates will be considered regardless of race, gender, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation or religion.

Please state why you think this nominee is deserving of the DESIGNsmith distinction. Include nominee’s student and/or professional activities and achievements, and any honors received. Give details of nominee’s accomplishments. This is the basis for the selection of DESIGNsmiths. The material you submit will not be returned to you. Incomplete nominations will not be considered.

Early deadline for nominations is June 30, 2008. Finalists will be featured on the College of Design’s 60th anniversary Web site.
Jury
The DESIGNsmith jury shall be selected by the College of Design’s 60th anniversary committee.
