Brandon Alley

I am an alumnus of the Centennial Scholarship Program.  In my time at NC State I has served as freshman and Sophomore Representative as well as Vice President of the Tompkins Textile Student Council, Media Representative 2 years for Phi Psi Professional Textile Fraternity, and the Entertainment Chair 2 years for NC State's Relay For Life.  I am also a member of Sigma Tau Sigma Honors Fraternity and Alpha Psi Omega Theater Society.  I have performed with University Theater in their productions of A Few Good Men, Sweet Charity, Grease, and 2 Annual Madrigal Dinners.  I am an avid supporter of Arts NC State.  In the summer of 2006 I studied fashion design as a part of the Study Abroad program in Florence, Italy.  In 2007 I received the Young Menswear Association Fashion Scholarship.  That summer I worked an internship for Fishman and Tobin Apparel Group in New York City.  When I have free time I like to stay creative, produce music, write songs, draw, act and make people laugh.  I looks forward to seeing what I am doing in the future...it should be good.

Jenna Bost

I never took an art class before I came to design school through the Anni Albers program. Don’t let anything hold you back! My hobbies are horse-back riding, fusing glass, hanging out with my friends, dancing when I can, doing volunteer activities and I work at Coffee & Crepes in Crossroads. I am in Phi Psi, the professional textile fraternity, and Sigma Tau Sigma, an honors textile fraternity. I am a Centennial Scholar and of course an Anni Albers Scholar as well. Hopefully I will be doing a study abroad program to Florence this summer and I am looking into internships with costume companies as well as sports products companies. My interests are extremely varies and I like to explore them all.

Elizabeth Bradford

I have always had an equal love of art and science. When I discovered the Anni Albers program at NC State, I didn’t look any farther for college. Looking back as a 5th year senior, I can say it has kept me balanced: learning the technical and scientific side of things, all while getting to expand my creative vocabulary & constantly producing artwork. I would like to deepen my study in both the arts and sciences by attending a graduate program for scientific illustration. I am currently working with two professors doing illustrations to represent ideas in polymer chemistry and materials engineering. I have also designed for the Art 2 Wear fashion for the past three years and plan on braving up for it one more time. My true love in life is painting, and I just had my first professional show at ADR Delta gallery in Raleigh. I also love riding my bike around town, knitting, cooking for my roommates and writing haikus for strangers.

Keely Cansler

I have always loved fashion and the ability to express myself through art. Music has also continually played a huge part in my life. I love to sing, whether it is in front of a huge crowd or driving from place to place in my car. In addition to Anni Albers, I am involved in University Scholars, the NCSU homecoming parade, and serve as a textile peer mentor for incoming freshmen. I served as an NCSU Orientation Counselor for the summer of 2007 and plan to apply for a student assistant position for summer of 2008. I currently work at Buckle and I love my job and the personal interaction with customers. In the future I plan to apply for an internship with Buckle or possibly a fashion magazine, such as JANE or Teen Vogue. I also plan to study abroad in Prague for the Fashion and Costume design program for spring 2009, and participate in Teach for America. If everything works out, after college, I hope to open my own boutique in New York or possibly abroad.

Bliss Coleman

Bliss Coleman 2005

I graduated in 2005 from the Anni Albers Scholars program. During the summer of 2003 I had the opportunity to intern in New York City for two fashion designers; Alice Roi and Norma Kamali.  I was a designer in the College of Design/College of Textiles Art to Wear fashion show in 2003 and 2004 while also working as the technical director of the show in 2004.   In 2005, I won an undergraduate research award to work with Professor Nancy Powell on a project of my choice, “The Knitted Hat as Wearable Art”.  In 2005, I was asked to exhibit my fashion and accessory designs at UNC Chapel Hill’s Student Union.  After graduating I went on to receive my Master of Industrial Design in 2007 from North Carolina State University, College of Design.  In 2006, I was an accepted designer in Design Expo Raleigh where I exhibited my hat collection and was a featured designer in Fashion Spark fashion show part of Spark Con design conference in Raleigh, NC.  In 2007, I had the opportunity to work with Assistant Professor Sharon Joines and the College of Design on a simulation obesity suit which has been used by students for ergonomic research.  During graduate school I interned with Carolina Hosiery and Jefferies Socks in Burlington, NC.  After graduation I went on to work full time for these two sister companies working in product development, graphic design, and private label accounts.  I work daily with customers, the product life cycle, the development of socks and tights, and creating marketing tools such as catalogs, brochures of product lines, ads, and packaging.  In my spare time I continue to create my own designs and pursue my creativity.

Jenna Draughn

Working with textiles allows me to explore a timeless medium which is familiar and is rich in history, yet has great possibilities for creating new and innovative beauty.  The enjoyment of designing textiles comes from the love of working with my hands and the innermost desire to create beauty.  For me beauty is found in touch, color, pattern, shape, and form.  These are the areas in which I focus my artistic abilities, always drawing from my experiences whenever I make a design decision.  By doing what I love and finding new paths and directions for my designs, I find joy in working and a passion for producing products that other people will find just as intriguing.

Jenna Eason 2007

Ever since I entered Anni Albers Scholars Program, I have been dedicated to the Program, the Colleges, and the University.  I was a Centennial Scholar and active participant in several national and international design competitions and conferences.  I have been recognized for my work at Textile Futures, Inspired Design, WithIt, ITAA, and the Southeastern Automotive Forum.  As an undergrad, I was active in Textile Student Council, Phi Psi, KTB, and STS.  I was also a member of the Wolfpack Club, Student Bridges, and worked with the ReDesign www.ncsu.edu committee.  I served the Albers Program as Student Director and Webmaster.  During undergrad, I interned with Patsy Aiken Designs, and held multiple part-time, experience-oriented positions.  Some of my most exciting experiences have been abroad traveling to Ghana, Czech Republic, and Southern Europe to study textiles and visit textile companies, exhibitions and universities.  Most recently, I studied Automotive Engineering in Nagoya, Japan.  In Spring 2008, I began pursuing my MS in TTM at NC State’s College of Textiles.  I am working with Professor Nancy Powell in Automotive Textile Design on a Research Assistantship.

Amy Fremin

Amy Fremin 2003

Since Graduation in 2003 I have been working in the Automotive Industry.  My first job moved me from North Carolina to Southern California.  I worked for a Japanese Textile Company and I focused on working with color and trim designers at mainly Asian automakers (OEM’S).  Working for Seiren gave me the opportunity to work and travel to Japan often.   After about a year and a half I was given the chance to move on and work for an OEM as a color and trim designer.  I now have been at Hyundai Design North America for a little over four years.  This job requires a lot of international travel but this time to South Korea… I have been so often now that I have a Korean visa in my passport.  I also travel within the US and Europe to different auto and/or design shows.  I am responsible for all color, soft, tactile, and exterior surfaces on a vehicle.  I enjoy this job because it requires me to work with many different types of materials, but I also need to be aware of what type of production process components will be using in order to design/present the appropriate pattern/material/finish.

Amber Gantt

At an early age my mother a seamstress and quilter taught me the love of fiber, through quilting, sewing, embroidering, and crocheting.  My parents encouraged me to take private art lessons in which I further expanded my design skills through drawing and painting.  When choosing a college to attend, North Carolina State University seemed like the only logical choice because of the Anni Albers program which has allowed me to achieve the best of both worlds- the technical engineering of woven, knitted, and printed fabrics as well as the functionality and aesthetics of fabric.  I am currently a senior in the program and am currently seeking a job in the textile industry.  My goal is to find a career that merges the knowledge of the construction of fabric with the aesthetic appreciation for fabric.

I hope to work as an interior designer at an architectural/interior design firm, and be involved in sustainable projects as much as possible.

Diane Hagan (2005 - Graduate December 2009)

I am interested in product design for sportswear or protective wear. This came from growing up in a family of track and field athletes and I eventually joined the tradition. My goal is to design functional products that incorporate good technology as well as aesthetics. I started to see that my goals are achievable with the skills that I've learned in the program. Anni Albers has allowed me to use both sides of my brain: the science side, and the art side to design textile products. I've had the great experience of doing undergraduate research in digital textile printing along side a graduate student. Currently, I'm an intern at Cotton Incorporated--originally working in Finishing Research but now I'm working in Product Development. I've enjoyed both experiences as well as seeing the operation of the company as a whole.

Amanda Hageman 2008

Other schools made it difficult for me to simultaneously explore my fascination with science and my passion for craft. I transferred in to NC State and the Anni Albers program during my Junior year and started my studies over completely. The Anni Albers program helps me hone my craft through design and embrace my inner chemistry nerd. I never thought I would be in textiles, but now in my sophomore year of the program and I couldn't be happier with my fibers and weaving classes. It doesn't hurt that textiles is a fascinating and exciting field to be in right now. It is never to late to learn more and to do what you love!

Orvokki Halme

Orvokki Halme 2004

Since graduation, I have lived in New York and Helsinki.  I interned with fashion designers, Miguel Adrover and Tess Giberson, in New York.  Since then, my focus has been in the arts, more so than textiles.  I’ve taken part in group shows, with my drawing/collages in galleries in the US and Europe.  In Helsinki I worked for Myymälä2 Gallery and for a World Village Festival as a visual coordinator.  In my future I have graduate school as a possibility and am flexible with future destinations, most likely working in arts management-related positions and continuing my own artwork.

This year I will be helping out with the Art to Wear show. I have received the following scholarships; Prestige Scholarship, Provost Scholarship, John Tillery Scholarship, Carteret County Distinguished Young Woman Scholarship, and the Rotary Scholarship. I have also received the following awards; American Visions Award and the DAR Good Citizen Award.

Charles Anna Herring

From a young age I have loved to create, and I would use my imagination to create stories, poems, people, drawings, dresses, basically anything I could think of. I learned about the Anni Albers Program from my sister and I knew that I wanted to learn more about fabric design after visiting a studio at N.C. State. I was amazed by the beautiful silk fabric created and designed by students themselves. I now enjoy creating patterns and textures, working with fabric and making photographs. I hope to find a job that allows me to create and design products that will inspire others and continue to inspire me to create.

Katherine Hudson

Katherine Hudson 2004

I moved to Chicago after graduation and took a product design position with Eastern Accents - a home furnishings manufacturer.  I am still with EA, and over the past 5 years, a variety of design opportunities and challenges have come my way.  Shanghai, Brussels, and Las Vegas are among some of the more exciting trips I have taken with work, but I never complain when it brings me back to the NC Furniture Market.  Despite the crazy cold weather, Chicago is an exciting place to live and I am always taking advantage of something new that this great city has to offer.

Cynthia McMullen

I enjoy machine knitting and hand knitting. I was born in Texas and then went to FIDM in Los Angeles. There I graduated with AA in textile design with a concentration in knitwear design. I have worked at GUESS and Silk City Fibers. I am a sweater technical designer. I worked with most Los Angeles contemporary designers that sold their lines in Barneys and boutiques all over the world. I developed specs, technical sketches, and provided customer service for all enthusiasts of yarn and sweaters.
Now that I am in North Carolina, I enjoy reading, watching movies and, spending time with friends. I am also trying to be involved in NCSU because this is my first ‘real’ college experience. It is overwhelming, but I love getting to know new  places and new faces.
