Isolation and Quarantine

NC State is following CDC guidance for COVID-19 isolation and quarantine, issued on Dec. 27, 2021. The following replaces all previous COVID-19 isolation and quarantine guidance.

Isolation for On-Campus Residents

Any on-campus resident who tests positive for COVID-19 will be directed by NC State Student Health Services (SHS) to isolate. If you are instructed to isolate, we strongly encourage you to do so at a permanent residence for the period of isolation. If you cannot isolate at a permanent residence, effective immediately, residents will isolate in their on-campus housing assignment. Please see specific guidance below.

  • Residents staying in their assignment are expected to remain in their bedroom area and wear a face covering as much as possible.
  • Exposed roommates are expected to test after three days. Roommates are not required to quarantine immediately, regardless of vaccination or booster status, but are strongly encouraged to wear a face covering and practice social distancing.
  • On-campus temporary quarantine and isolation housing will be available to students who cannot isolate at a permanent residence or housing assignment.
  • Meal Services from University Dining will continue to be available through various meal distribution locations, based on housing assignments. Meals must be picked up by the student or someone may pick meals up on their behalf.
  • Students should call the Wolfpack Response Line at 919-512-3272 or email housing-covid@ncsu.edu with any questions or concerns.

Isolation Policy for On-Campus Residents

Any residents already placed in isolation, or who left campus to return to their permanent residence should remain in place until their isolation period ends and are cleared by SHS to return to the on-campus assignment. The following policy is effective Jan. 13, 2022:

If you test positive for COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status:

  • Residents who test positive will remain in their on-campus housing space for five days. Residents may also elect to isolate at a permanent off-campus residence if desired.
  • Residents are expected to remain in their bedroom area and wear a face covering as much as possible, especially when leaving the room to go to the bathroom or to pick up food from designated distribution areas.
  • If after five days you are asymptomatic or your symptoms are resolving (without fever for 24 hours), then you may leave isolation if you continue to wear a mask when around others for five additional days to minimize the risk of infecting people you encounter.
  • Roommates are not required to quarantine immediately, regardless of vaccination or booster status. We encourage roommates to test three days after their roommate tests positive, wear a face covering as much as possible, and practice physical distancing when feasible. If you are more comfortable going to your permanent residence while your roommate is isolating in your room, you can certainly do so.
  • If you still have a fever or have significant symptoms, please continue to isolate for the full 10 days and seek health care if necessary.
  • If you have tested off campus, upload your test results to the HealthyPack Portal

Dining Locations

In partnership with NC State Dining, food distribution areas are being established on campus for residents isolating in place. All residents in isolation will receive specific instructions, including options for meals and details on their food distribution location. Meals must be picked up by the student or someone may pick it up on their behalf.

  • Wolf Village and ES King residents should go to WV C Store for Meal Service.
  • Bragaw, Lee and Sullivan residents should go to Bragaw Activity Room for Meal Service.
  • Tri-Towers, TOTA, Wood and Quad residents should go to One Earth for Meal Service.
  • AFC and Western Manor residents should go to Magnolia Cottage for Meal Service.
  • North, Gold, Welch, Watauga and Syme residents should go to North Hall Lobby for Meal Service.
  • Wolf Ridge residents should receive Meal Service at Plaza Hall, Room 215 via Grubhub.
