On March 28, 2006, university officials broke ground on the center, which is a fitness facility designed specifically for recreational use by gym members.

The $12 million, three-story recreational center is comprised of more than 42,000 square feet of space, with an entire floor dedicated to the use of all new cardio training equipment. One floor houses four fitness rooms, including one room outfitted for yoga and pilates classes. The ground floor features a Port City Java and a conference room.

The real advantage to the facility is that it is completely dedicated to recreational use, so members do not need to compete with physical education classes for these resources. Group fitness programming was expanded along with other services such as massage therapists and personal trainers. The facility gives members a state-of-the-art fitness experience.
