2. Welcome and Announcements
Chair Overton welcomed everyone.
Chair Overton announced that the Executive Committee voted to cancel the meeting last week and to reschedule the meeting for today.
Chair Overton announced that November 30th will be the last meeting of the semester. The agenda for that meeting will include comments from the Chancellor and comments from the chairman of the Board of Trustees, Lawrence Davenport, who is considering making comments on the strategic planning process and the engagement of faculty.
The chairs and co-chairs of the four Senate committees have been asked to report from their committees. The standing committee liaisons have been asked to report from their committees as applicable. There will also be a report from the Faculty Assembly by Hans Kellner, Chair-Elect of the Faculty.
Chair Overton announced that an invitation has been sent to faculty who are on the task force committees with the intent to provide a little more of what the Senate does and what the interactions are that we have from time to time with upper administration.
Chair Overton announced that during discussions in the Executive Committee meeting it was suggested that the Senate consider meeting in other locations to become more visible. “That is something that might be discussed in the spring,” she said.
Chair Overton stated that today’s meeting originated out of the meeting held on November 2nd when a senator wanted to know whether the Faculty Senate was engaged in the search for the Provost. She explained that when the Executive Committee met they discussed that interaction between Senators and Executive Committee members, so the meeting was scheduled today to have a discussion as the Senators would be interested in having.
