Required System Actions

Leave actions are required in the HR System for both paid and unpaid time taken under the Family and Medical Leave policy.

If the employee's FMLA is paid through the use of accrued leave, then enter:
Action: Paid Leave of Absence
Reason: Family and Medical Leave

Also ensure that the employee's web leave is updated on a regular basis with their use of leave.  Time may be entered in advance, or on a weekly/ monthly basis.  Departments are responsible for monitoring their employees FMLA and accrued leave usage.

If the employee's FMLA will remain unpaid due to the unavailability of accrued leave, or the choice of the employee to not exhaust all of their available annual and bonus leave, and comp time, then enter:
Action: Leave of Absence
Reason: Family and Medical Leave

If the employee's FMLA was in a paid status but is now transferring to an unpaid status, then enter:
Action: Return from Leave
Reason: Return from paid leave

Then enter:
Action: Leave of Absence
Reason: Family and Medical Leave.

Intermittent Leave under FMLA:

No leave action is required to be entered into the HR system when the employee is taking intermittent leave.  All intermittent leave is tracked in the web leave system.  Supervisors must require their employees to specifically designate “ FMLA” in the comments section any time taken related to their approved Family and Medical leave. Departments are responsible for making sure that the we leave system is updated on a weekly basis.
