Term Details - Visa

A visa is a travel document (commonly referred to as a stamp or sometimes a "foil") placed in a person's passport, allowing the traveler to make a lawful entry into the country which granted the visa and placed it in the passport. Visa issuance generally occurs at a Consulate or Embassy of the country to which the person wishes to travel in the person's home country or a third country. For exampled, U.S. entry visas are generally issued by the U.S. Department of State at U.S. Consulates and Embassies located in foreign countries throughout the world.
