Welcome to the 2008 US Elections Program

Welcome to the home page of the US Elections Program hosted by the Global Training Initiative (GTI) at NC State University. This program is sponsored by the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in cooperation with the Fulbright Commission and the US Embassy in Brazil. This special program is designed to introduce 20 exceptional students from Brazil’s leading universities to learn more about and experience US democracy and our elections process on the local, state, and national levels. After ten days of special workshops, class attendance, student activities, and site visits, the entire group will travel to Washington DC to meet leaders in politics, tour government buildings and museums, and debrief at the State Department. The 2008 elections are proving to be one of the most exciting, pivotal, and talked about elections in US history. In addition to a closely fought presidential election, the state of North Carolina has close races for state governor, the US Senate, and other offices as well. Please look around this web site for interesting links about this exciting program.
