An update on our progress in Poe Hall

Good afternoon,

We’re writing to you today to address some questions we’ve received about the testing timeline and next steps as we work to gain a better understanding of the environment inside Poe Hall. We recognize that everyone is eager for answers, and we hope to have more to share with you from our environmental consultants soon.

Last week, our team reactivated the building’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning system for the first time since it was turned off last November. This allows our environmental consultants to conduct additional testing with the system on. We expect to receive results and analysis sometime in the next several weeks. Once we have that information, we will share it with you.

Our teams have been working with college and department leadership to ensure that you have what you need for the summer. If you have any needs regarding materials or equipment that remain in the building, please connect with your department leadership about replacing those items in the interim.

We know many of you have questions about what will happen to the building when the testing is complete and how subsequent concerns will be addressed. We do not yet have answers for these questions, but please be assured that any actions we take will be guided by best practices and agency partners, particularly the Environmental Protection Agency.

We appreciate your patience as we work with experts to get answers. As a reminder, if you are in need of support, the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program is confidential and free to all NC State employees, and the NC State Counseling Center serves students in every college, through both telehealth and in-person sessions.

As we learn more, we will continue to keep you informed via email and the Poe Hall Updates website.

Thank you.
