Every Friday night, @ncstateced alumnus David Washington watches an action movie with his family. But he quickly got tired of rarely seeing protagonists that represent people of color. 🎬🦸🏾
“Every child deserves to see themselves in their heroes,” he said. So David turned to a medium he never expected: comic books. Now, he’s the author of “Black Defender: The Awakening.”
🏆 Since its release, “Black Defender” has received a Best Indie Book Award and was nominated for an @naacp Image Award.

Did you know that NC State has a presence in every North Carolina county and the Eastern Band of Cherokee? It’s called @NCStateExtension, and it’s how we help all North Carolinians transform science into everyday solutions. 🌱
From June through September, Dean Garey Fox of @NCStateCALS is taking a statewide tour to all 101 local Extension centers plus the Plants for Human Health Institute in Kannapolis. Today, Chancellor Kevin Howell joined Dean Fox in Granville, Vance, Warren and Franklin counties.
“We see what you are doing and we know it is important,” Chancellor Howell said to the staff in Vance County. “Sometimes extension is like planting trees. The person who plants the tree doesn’t always get to pick the fruit, but it does grow. That’s what you folks are doing. You’re planting the trees.”
The tour, known as Expedition Extension, supports and celebrates the people growing North Carolina from the ground up. #ThinkAndDo

Gene editing is changing the business of trees. 🧬
Jack Wang, an alumnus and associate professor of forestry at @ncstatecnr, is breeding trees in a new way. Wang’s work could:
‣make trees more resilient during periods of drought.
‣reduce the carbon emissions of trees when they’re used to produce products like diapers and toilet paper.
‣make trees more resistant to pests.

Walk and yap. 🙂↕️ We took a stroll 🚶♂️ with then-@ncstatedesign student, now graduate, Erin Secosky to talk about everything from why she chose NC State to what she’d show aliens if they came to Earth. (We know you’re curious.) Csenge and Erin’s journey takes them from the College of Design courtyard to the @ncstategreggmuseum.

How would we describe our campus? Gorgeous, traditional architecture meets leading-edge, futuristic structures. (It’s a combination you won’t see at any other university in the area.)
